Disney Quest to close in July 2017

I understand disney springs is currently still under construction trying finish up some things but I know a new NBA experience is supposed to come in the near future to Disney springs but I read on several sources that the NBA backed out. I thought this would be a great addition to the former downtown disney area now renamed disney springs. So what's really replacing disneyquest at the very moment?

OK here's disney chance of putting a marvel themed restaurant at Disney springs! With hands on interactive games, arcade, indoor theme park similar to Disneyquest. Play against your favorite marvel superheroes & villains?!!!!!!

The contract with Universal would likely prevent this. Marvel was actually considering developing something like this back when the contract with Universal was made so there is a clause in the contract that would have allowed Marvel to do this, but it could not be within 60 miles of a Universal park.

Only because Disney let it fail.

Exactly. If Disney updated it, and changed things, made it better, etc I'm sure it would be one of the best things to do in Disney Springs.

All that really needs to be done is some modernization in my opinion. Move away from the arcade thing, but keep the fun "Disney" aspect of it. DisneyQuest is a big part of my Disney World vacation memories, and I think all it needs is a little love :)

I have to imagine that Disney just doesn't want to be in this business anymore. I agree, that if they put a wholly updated concept out there it could be successful and compete with Main Event, Dave & Busters, heck even Chuck E Cheese. Everything from hosting princess parties to eSports events for the ESPN eSports initiative. Just like the Disney Store concept, I think they cut and run too quickly from this concept instead of evolving it the way that the other chains have. Disney Springs could be a fresh opportunity to revamp the concept.

However, I get the impression that they don't want to be in this business anymore.

You're probably right. Even if NBA Experience isn't going to go in the DisneyQuest building, the fact that Disney was trying to get something else in there tells me you're right, and they don't want to be in that business anymore.

But if they diiiiiiiiiiid ... they can call me, and I'll give them some nice tips on how to make DQ even better ;)

They tried to do it on the absolute cheap. It doesn't quite work like that.

Yeah. Seems like they could have a pretty successful venture if they positioned it correctly. Maybe not video game centric, but interactive activities that take the best of Dave & Busters and merge it with Disney IP. You could easily have 10-15 operating across the country. Man...the more I think about this the more I can think of successful paths forward. Disney should want to get back in this business...LOL

If I were a DCP executive, I would be lobbying to get a local entertainment concept back into consideration...maybe not the DQ in Orlando...but definitely a trial location somewhere.
