Disney Quest - Is it worth checking out?

Hi Everyone,

I have been reading the posts for a few months now in anticipation of my trip coming up July 30-Aug 6. So exciting!!! I find this site very informative. I thought it was about time I join the action

I am pretty sure we are buying the 7 day park hopper pass with fun option. So I am wondering if Disney Quest is worth checking out and if we were to go how much time to plan staying there.

Thanks for all of the great info and tips so far.

Your enjoyment of DisneyQuest is primarily based on whether or not the people in your group like video games.

If you used to play video games but don't anymore, you may want to go just to check out the Replay Zone. They have the original arcade versions of classic games like Defender, Pac Man, and Centipede.

I went to WDW three times between August of 04 and August of 05. Went to DQ each time. Enjoyed it, but even in the course of that one year, the place seemed to slip...DRAMATICALLY...in its upkeep. Lots of stuff seemed to be out of order, lots of interactive games seemed to be abused and not repaired or even cleaned. It felt kinda grungy. At least grungier. And based on some other threads, it doesn't sound like they've gone out of their way to make things better lately. If you go, go with lowered expectations. There are still some fun games and things to do, plus desserts from Cheescake Factory, if you're into that sort of thing. But there's definitely an air of "This was once so much nicer" hanging above it.

Yeah I want back when it basically first opened and the place was amazing. I absolutely LOVED it... and I've been twice since... and it goes down a little each time... The Cyber Space Mountain is always fun no matter what... and I think if you're gonna be there for 7 days... you might wanna take like 3 hours some day in the middle of the day to check it out... IMO...

My wife and I are going in November, and our stance right now is, if we find ourselves with time, and we think we're going to have a "waterpark and more" credit free that we're not going to want to use at a waterpark or for P.I. admission, we'll stop in, but if we don't make it, it won't be any big loss. We went in 2002, and found it just ok. Alot of the classic games were broken in one way or another, and the really popular attractions, like the virtual coasters were overcrowded.

I have never been but I heard it was a glorified arcade.

I think it's worth it just to do the Pirates game. At one point we had my mother who isn't into that sort of thing pointing out ships and screaming for us to shoot at them while she piloted the boat.

I love DisneyQuest, but I'm a gamer. It really depends on whether you like video games or not. It is pretty much a glorified arcade, but for some of us that's cool... :animwink:

Disney Quest was a high concept idea from Disney that never really panned out like they expected it to. It was supposed to be the arcade of the future--an interactive and entirely indoor theme park. Disney was hoping to branch it out all across the country (one in Chicago opened, and then closed pretty darn quickly). While the description sounds cool, it doesn't necessarily work that way in reality. For one thing, the American Arcade is pretty much a dead industy. And, as result, Disney Quest feels stale.

However, the biggest problem is that the technology just doesn't feel that impressive anymore. Upon opening, the virtual reality games and rides were state of the art. But, when compared to the cutting edge market of video games today, it doesn't cut the mustard anymore.

Is it worth seeing? Well, if you're a big video game fan or have young teenage boys in your party, I'd say it's a pleasant diversion. But, I certainly wouldn't give up park time for it. Since it's entirely indoors, it does make a nice getaway from a rainy day.

Having been to DisneyQuest, I can say that, if you have the time for it, you should probably take 2-3 hours to check it out. I think that it is worth trying once, especially because Cyber Space Mountain and the pirates game are both still extremely fun. The rest of the place is little more than ok, but being your first time there you will probably find a couple of things that you kind of enjoyed, or at least that you were willing to try. The best warning I can give you is nothing, including the 2 things I mentioned, is nearly as cool as it is made to seem, but CSM and the pirates game were still a lot of fun and pretty cool.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I think since neither my friend or I have tried it before it would be interesting to take a peak in for a few hours. If it's not for us well we can always take a peak out :)

I've been twice and the majority of my friends agree that the first time you go it's interesting and new and can be fun if it's not too terribly crowded. Each time, I agree, it seems to lack something in quality and you notice how little attention it seems to get compared to the theme parks. I would say, if it rains and you need something to do, otherwise you won't be missing a "must-see".

Enjoy your trip!

Depends on crowds...

My wife and I usually go about every other time we visit WDW. If it's offseason, say on a Tuesday, the place is dead and it's great. If it's crowded with families, it can be mostly standing in line and dodging screaming, running kids...

You can always ask before going in how crowded it is. Figure a few hours in there if it isn't crowded.

My son and I went on our recent trip. I skipped it last trip because I didn't want to shell out the $$$. But now I have an AP, so we went. My son loved it and I enjoyed myself too. We ended up going back three more times. I agree that your enjoyment would depend on whether you're a gamer or not.

I think it would be worth checking out if you have the time it has some pretty neat interactive games and arcade games. I spend about 2 or 3 hours there when i go. Its fun if you dont mind the noise and lots of teenagers running around plus its the only place in disney world that i could find Dance Dance Revolution.
