Disney Playing catch up with Universal... Potter Disney's biggest mistake in 20 years...

I think that it would be great if they did this, but is it sustainable? At what point do you find that a theme park is big enough and that the attractions are all keepers?

Don't know, but I do know this: they're not close to that state at Epcot or the Studios.

Question, does the attendance numbers released count as individual tickets? or people who enter?

I mean, they count in the same way people who have APs, CM discounts, CMfree, ParkHoppers and normal visitors?

The numbers that are most often quoted around here come from the TEA/AECOM reports. They don't actually count people for these reports they just use a variety of information to estimate the attendance.

That's what I was thinking, also. Then I realized that they've made something like 79 sequels to the thing so it must be pretty popular. Also, I'm not sure that it matters if the IP dies on this one. A well-done 'fast driving' attraction is probably going to be fun even if you never watched the movies. The Vin Diesel thing is the part that might bite them.
But Vin Diesel is now a walking/talking tree in Disney's side ;)

Is fast and furious still a thing?
I mean, popularity wise.
I expected it to be deader than Elvis Presley.
They have burned the franchise severely IMHO.

A++ for that magicband post lol!
And I agree, My Magic is more of a System and infrastructure upgrade than anything related to attraction or show.
Fast and Furious 6 made 750-800 million WW last year on a $140-150 million budget. The 7th one has a shot at 300 million DOM due to morbid curiosity.

And fast cars don't really go out of style.

Thirty six pages later and the battle rages on. Surely, by now, you don't expect anyone is going to change their position on the original issue. Seems like many are beating a dead horse just for the fun of it.

yeah that franchise is not my thing but its obviously got fans
unfortunately, some very nasty fans (lots of Dbags prancing with VW beetle cars full of lamps, spoilers and modifications) love to show-off their "cars" here in my town. They use VWs because they cant afford a real racing car.. or a real car nevertheless.

They COULD have. Heck, they COULD have blown it out of the water and prevented this amazing resurgence Universal has seen as a result. However, you're right that they WOULDN'T have. What they are capable of and what they are actually WILLING to do are tragically different.

Which is exactly what i'm saying.

They seem to half- everything now. Hence why animatronics barely work on the newest attractions.
I don't think they would have made an effort with the detail and the surroundings either personally.

Ok, so neither is a good fit, but you can see them doing cool stuff with Avatar. But they couldn't do cool stuff with Harry Potter? I don't understand your logic.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Having just seen Maleficent, I'd have preferred they created the Moors as it fits perfectly with the mythical creatures theme, however, I see why they jumped on Avatar after Harry Potter's success. I just think it was a short-sighted, snap judgement.

OK, I don't post very often here, but I read many of the posts. First of all this is call WDWMagic, but the majority of posts here are so negative about Disney. I don't think Disney made an error not getting Harry Potter. Others have posted and said it's not the right fit, and I agree. Although I am not wowed by Harry Potter, I welcome any competition that will make Disney up the ante. Avatar was an ok movie but should be interesting to see what attractions Disney presents. And Disney did secure Star Wars and Marvel, so enough of bashing them about Harry Potter. Even with minor issues, that seems to be brought up here....trash can doesn't talk, on my 100th ride a certain animatronic wasn't operating, etc., I look forward to every visit to Disney. How about we get back to what this site was created for, for people who love the Disney experience?

I think you will find that most people here do love the Disney experience, doesn't mean they can't call out things that don't live up to their expectations. I don't think the people who setup these forums ever intended them to be for a one sided discussion of Disney. That would be pretty boring.

It just seems that the negative posts far out-number the positive. You are right a one-sided discussion would be boring, but like this topic, 37 pages of how Disney missed a great opportunity in Harry Potter? Bring on Avatar, Star Wars and the Marvel heroes! :)
