Disney Playing catch up with Universal... Potter Disney's biggest mistake in 20 years...

I look forward to riding them all. Lots of new stuff to ride at Universal when I get there Christmas 2015.

You have no idea. Be very, very excited. We went for the first time in about five years to Universal Studios and it was an incredible, incredible day (and that was without Potter 2.0). It is absolutely amazing how much that park has changed in just a few short years.

And the best thing? We went with a group of kids and almost everything we did was great for everyone from age 9 to 70. Disney has a lot to learn from the way Uni is now developing their parks.

Being from the UK I don't get all bitterness between Disney and Universal.
Being a WDW fansite, there are two basic categories of people who post here:

1. People who love the way WDW is.
2. People who love the way WDW was.

Those who love the way WDW is don't like to read criticism of their beloved parks.

Those who love the way WDW was think that today's Universal is doing what WDW used to do.

To a lesser extent, there's a third category that think both are great but, if you push them enough, they almost always end up on one side or the other. It is, after all, difficult to balance on the edge of a razorblade. :D

You cannot say one is better than the other though because they both look great and is all really just a matter of opinion

Well, one is absolutely immersive and contains excitement and experiences jammed into every little nook and cranny while the other looks nice but contains very, very little in the way of substance.

So no, it really isn't just "a matter of opinion".

Germany will never be a larger economy than the United States... but that doesn't mean it's can't be healthier and give better returns.

Just because you aren't the biggest, doesn't make you less successful or less profitable.

The only people who care about 'who has the highest TEA numbers' are fanboys trying to cheer for their park. The real moxie is in guest spending and utilization.

HAHAHA!!!! Yeah ok, those of us who read and understand imperial data are the crazy ones, and the people who make try makeing vague and meaningless analogies about the German economy are the one's are "AREN"T GRASPING AT STRAWS" whatever you say

First awesome photographs...I love the one of the mine train. Wow...does it really look like that at night?

Both areas in my opinion are well themed and will be fun to explore when I finally get to Orlando. My only complaint with Disney is how slow they are with coming out with new rides. It's the main reason I go to theme parks.

That photo is using a technique called HDR. No, it doesn't really look like that and things are so jam-packed in the area you would have to go to just the perfect place to get that shot. The area where this was taken from is probably the most narrow area of the entire expansion.

Just because you talk mince with conviction doesn't make it any less mince. Similarly over use of capitalisation doesn't establish the comment contained there in as fact, it makes the user appear a bit a of a bell end.

Honestly the first pic looks like it will be narrow and very crowded walkway between tall square buildings ...I'm wondering about traffic flow there

Another one of your pics looks like the boardwark area now and I'm not sure if you were expecting Ariel to breath fire or what? lol

While some of the new Uni additions look nice...if we're comparing new dragons...I think the one in the daytime parade at WDW has to win hands down
Theres enough HDR in this thread to make me shake uncontrollably with rage and channel Gunnery Sgt. Hartman.

And why cant any of these dumb shutter monkeys make a photo with a goddammed person in them.
Didn't mean to oversaturate the thread with HDR - as someone who enjoys playing with photography (and sometimes HDR) but who does NOT consider themselves a photographer, I do still agree that there's too much HDR out there.

Additionally, I believe at least some of the photos I shared were press photos, taken before the shutter monkeys had goddammed people to contend with. Not all of them, but some.

Yes, you go ahead and read and understand your "imperial " data. I'd rather read information from an articulate poster like Flynn.

Consider me 75% #2 with a small portion of #3!

But at the moment, Universal just has more to offer for people over the age of 8. Disney has completely neglected pre teens, teens, and adults since 2006. 11 years between Everest and Pandora

If you can't see why someone might plausibly be more excited by this:

then I simply don't know what to say. It is completely valid and reasonable to be excited about Universal's new expansion, regardless of what anyone else (including Disney) is doing in their parks.

PS: I made as grand an effort as I could to find the most attractive photos of both locations to avoid demonstrating a bias. I have a lot of love for both of the projects pictured in this post, but I would argue that one is certainly more immersive than the other.
by watching both photos, honestly.... I can only say that the ones in Disney are better illuminated with better range of colours.
also no idea why your BOG comparison picture for Universal is not visible.

I love competition. I love when companies step up and put their best foot forward. Without competition companies get a little lazy as we saw with Disney. Look Disney has cornered and are still cornering the theme park market. No one will ever catch Magic Kingdoms attendance in Florida. Disney has the top 8 spots world wide in attendance. They are a force.

But, what is happening now is their reputation for creating the best rides is starting to crack at their Flagship destination. Walt Disney World is the Flagship destination and it can't create the worlds best rides and won't even give it's customers and average of 1 ride every 4 years for each park. Very Very sad. DisneyWorld should have a new top draw attraction ready to go every year at one of their parks.

Universal is toe to toe with them and has now created a must go to park by adding the new addition to Potter. It will be that way for the foreseeable future. That is great for us fans of emmersive theme park experiences. I mean we have the world of Harry Potter that we can go to. It's awesome!
I think we will look back at this time as the golden age of the theme park wars in Florida.
Harry Potter
Star Wars
Avatar
New FantasyLand
These are worlds these companies are building or will build. I think it's exciting. Who cares who builds what as long as it's built. We are talking about talented people at both companies. Good people, go out and appreciate their work...at both companies.

So, Stil want to go through with our bet? Oh, never mind. Too late.

Dragons 2 has dudded just like I said it would.
too hyped imho. also the movie was very good, but too crammed.. It had hardly the same flawless pace of the first.
As I posted somewhere else .. 3/4 of the movie was perfect, until the drago subplot went full force.

I agree, the DA one isn't really new and innovative as everyone calls it as FOF has been around for a bit. Also, DA doesn't really look realistic (in photos, yes, but there is no movement so that effect is ruined) while the FOF one is supposed to have that design

Well, one is absolutely immersive and contains excitement and experiences jammed into every little nook and cranny while the other looks nice but contains very, very little in the way of substance.

Actually, it is. You are stating opinion as fact.
