News Disney plans to accelerate Parks investment to $60 billion over 10 years

I’d never heard of this channel before but it popped up in my feed and I can’t disagree with any of it, Universal is now the innovator, Disney reacts rather than being proactive.

I think the only way we’ll actually see Disney spend $17 billion in WDW is if Epic is a huge hit and Disney HAS to react.

Like all things, this is a very WDW centric viewpoint. Universal largely follows the precedent set by Disney elsewhere. Including their new resort builds. Orlando is absolutely Universals test bed and best foot forward and I’d frankly argue sometimes it feels like WDW is Disneys worst depending on the time period. Though it is really the only location the two are actually major direct competitors. Hollywood to a lesser extent.

I’m very excited for Epic, it looks awesome. I am also happy they are trying a new type of park design. Kind of the ultimate extension of what they’ve learned from Islands and particularly Diagon Alley. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts (the true hub and spoke), not a knock against them for trying it though.

But universal Beijing is a pretty bad corporately designed park. Though assuredly new resorts have the longest design lead time. Which some more recent effort speaks to maybe that era of UC has passed now for the better.

What was Igers point of saying "there is enough land to expand up with up to 7 Disneyland sized parks." If not to give false hope to Disney fans.

It was born out of a statement to shareholders that they were not going to be building a new resort this ten year investment cycle, but that didn’t mean they lacked space to spend new resort money on their existing portfolio. It is notable that this is the longest the company will go without building a new resort to expand its reach.

It’s also to provide guidance to shareholders that there is not a spatial limit on their ability to grow revenue. All of their existing resorts have ability to meaningful expand.

Iger was just regurgitating that talking point from the Fall and screwed it up.

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
I am mostly excited for Epic Universe because, in my lifespan (26 years), there has not been a grand opening for a theme park on this scale that I can go capture, enjoy, and remember. I finally get to experience a whole brand new theme park in my lifetime and probably be amazed the same way people were when Epcot, Animal Kingdom, or even Islands of Adventure, opened for the first time.

It's my turn!!

That is extraordinarily rare. Used strollers aren’t exactly worth much or easy to fence. Getting valuables stolen **from** your stroller? Sure, that can happen.

yea, I get that -- I was commenting on another's rant about other places that have weekend curfews for teenagers as well as other state's local parks that have tire slitting and gun play. I just sort of feel that the odds of having those things happen to you are just as rare -- I would imagine having something taken from your stroller at Disney probably has better odds than encountering gun play at a six flags....

Where its Walt originals park, I was kind of hoping they may have shown a bit more care on how they use the limited land they have there rather than plopping clones in which Pandora could well be.

You don't deserve nothing more than a clone. Pandora is pretty much perfect, except maybe the second attraction should be longer.

Can I ask where the Pandora to DL talk is coming from? I feel like it is being repeated but I can’t really see a source.

Iger announced an Avatar experience was coming to Disneyland on an earnings call early last year. Then a few days ago he said that Pandora was coming to California, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's anything different than the "experience" he already announced.

Iger mentioned Avatar Land coming to Disneyland, then Disney PR backtracked and referred to it as an Avatar Experience
Bob Iger today discussed the “Avatar experience” he announced last year that is planned for Disneyland Resort - and today he indicated it will be a land.

In a new "ICYMI" post on its website, Disney recapped Iger's comments earlier this week at the Morgan Stanley Conference and included a mention of "plans to develop an Avatar experience at Disneyland in California."

I knew about the previously mentioned Avatar “experience” for DLR which is why I was wondering how the talk seemed to morph into a whole land. So it is either than Iger misspoke (seems more likely) or perhaps it is possible if DLR actually develops DL Forward and expands the park space.
