Don't get me wrong, Cosmic Rewind cost a stupid amount of money (the number I saw was $450m). I suspect that a decent portion of Cosmic Rewind's cost was the water work and land prep. The giant warehouse also wasn't cheap and it wouldn't surprise me if somehow that was more expensive than the Everest rock work.

They also developed a new ride system for Cosmic Rewind plus I am sure some cost for the actors

I believe the updates to the Energy building wound up having to be much more extensive than anticipated

Not saying it should be 4x Everest but I get why it would be more

Insulated metal panels are used in actual warehouses because they’re so cheap.

Disney did not develop a new ride system. Vekoma modified a ride system they had already developed.

Really?

I know EE's queue line is very authentic looking and mildly interesting, but the Guardians queue is quite spectacular...lots going on in the queue line and 2 pre ride rooms.

Comparing the 2 is like comparing apples to pears, they are very different attractions, but I'd say Guardians has one of the best pre ride sections in all of orlando.

The preshow is different from the queue IMO -- Everest doesn't really have a preshow. I think the actual Everest queue is light years better than the CR one.

The preshows are an additional expense over Everest, although certainly nowhere near enough to account for the difference in cost.

That's sort of the big picture Disney issue. Most understand that something should cost more. But Disney takes it to a whole new stratosphere. We expected a Disney animated film to cost more than a DreamWorks or illuminations film. But not 2x plus. And the same goes for their attractions and construction in general.

I would. Most of the business community is very spooked by China right now. I would be shocked if Disney does any meaningful investment there any time soon.
It's a gamble either way, right? Disney's international parks have seen guest spending surge 69% since 2018. Shanghai Disney Resort has been one of the main drivers behind that growth. Shanghai Disney's 3rd Quarter revenue, margins, and operating income were all record highs. The slides are quite bullish on Shanghai Disney. They've only just started building a new luxury hotel in Shanghai. If they do move forward with a second park there's a risk of losing their investment due to geopolitical tension. But if they don't move forward there's a risk they miss out on huge opportunities for growth.

I think they're willing to take the gamble. Of course, only time will tell.

If they build a new international park I hope they dust off the Enchanted Forest concept, which they were developing for either Hong Kong or Korea.

At minimum, it’s clear the situation is much better for us than with Chapek. Chapek wanted to spend so little in the parks that he cut a Mary Poppins flat ride. Iger clearly has a different perspective.
That perspective being:

Legacy! What is a legacy? It's planting seeds in a garden you never get to see. Disney, you great unfinished symphony, you sent for me. You let me make a difference; a place where even orphan weathermen can leave their fingerprints and RISE UP I'm running out of time, I'm running and my TIME'S UP, WISE UP, eyes up. I catch a glimpse of the other side. Ashman leads an ocean chorus on the other side, the Shermans are on the other side, they're with Roy on the other side, WALT is watching from the other side (teach me how to say goodbye). RISE UP RISE UP RISE UP ZENIAAAAA!

That's one for the theater kids in the back.

Parks investment to 60 billion over 10 years. But they didn’t specify what 10 years 😉

One thing that’s for sure, TWDC is about story telling.

Yes they did.
Hmm CNBC says, "over the course of 10 years", NYT says, "over the next decade"

I will accept the NYT story.

Lets see what TWDC actually does over the next decade.

It takes them about 7 years to do anything, so they have to figure out what they are actually doing over the next decade instead of all the blue sky stuff.
