Disney plans hiring freeze, some jobs cut......

That’s been significantly decreased since XCO…there hasn’t been a reason to check out for 25 years. They don’t let balances sit in the rooms till the actual checkout.
I think they're talking about Merchandise and Food/Beverage.

What's annoying is, both of those products, along with pushing things like ticketing and hotel check in to the app, are the correct low hanging fruit to automate so you can focus on hiring for roles you can't... like Photopass photographers for character Meet and Greets.

At Coronado we saw a motorized robot by the Cabanas buildings go in the quiet pool to vacuum the dirt at the bottom of the pool one evening.
They're takin' our jorbs!!!

I personally find it easier. I like the fact that you can do it while on the move. That said, I understand that some prefer in-person ordering and think that option should be made readily available.

Like I said, it should be in addition to and not a replacement for staffed tills.
I don't think "mobile order only" has been a thing since mid-COVID, and even then they'd take your order at a register if you really insisted.

Certainly not helping the guest.

If it was in addition to manned cashiers desks yes. But when you have 8 register isles and one cast member taking money from a long line and all the others for mobile pick up are empty, that is not a great guest experience.

Oh of course not. They are not in that business anymore. My reply was in helping their bottom line of reducing human labor positions.

I also meant mobile check out as well as ordering.

One problem we have is the app wants one credit card that’s used across the company. Being foreign we have a dedicated card just for the US, and other cards we use at home. I couldn’t find an option to use a certain card just within the app. Ended up having a friend pay for us and we paid them back (with WDI discount so wasn’t all bad!)

The merchandise mobile check-out was amazing, honestly. I held off even trying it until the second-to-last-day on my last trip because I assumed it couldn't handle discounts, but it worked perfectly.

Another big upgrade they've rolled out recently is the ability to scan the barcode of a gift card using your phone's camera rather than typing the number every time.

For automating front line roles at the Disney parks the cost of labor isn't the only consideration. There are genuine concerns from even before the pandemic about the ability to source labor at all, especially at Disneyland. They didn't commit to building affordable housing at WDW just out of the goodness of their hearts.

Now you can argue they could just pay more - which, in fairness they should - but also working at Disney is a lot harder and asks a lot more of you than many other competing places.

Do you have to still combine all gift cards together to use it or can you add multiple?
