Disney Parks to Ban Straws

Paper straws are such a terrible product. It was only a matter of time before enough customers complained.

I don't usually buy soda at Disneyland. Last year I did- and I remember the straw disintegrating and ruining the taste of the soda.

Which is ridiculous since it's a $5 drink- the least they can do is give you a decent straw.

Everyone should invest in metal straws for themselves. They’re great.
I have a pair of metal utensils (Outlery for those interested) where the base of the utensils screw apart into two pieces and you screw on whichever utensil head you need, you get two bases to use two utensils at a time and they come in a high quality metal container that isn't big at all, it stays in my bag that I bring everywhere I go. I've been meaning to get a collapsable metal straw too, I don't want the solid ones even though they're normal straw shape / size when ones that fold down to be smaller tend to be wider, that way it takes less space in my bag. I know my actions don't change anything globally but I feel good knowing I'm not adding plastic to landfills after a single use for a single meal, and they just feel more comfortable / sturdy than flimsy plastic utensils. And you get to choose fun colors for your utensils even though I went with black to complete my mostly black and white aesthetic of my outfits / accessories.

I’ll definitely be looking into Outlery. Thank you!

Of course! They also have extra parts you can order, like a spork end piece or end pieces to turn the two utensil bases into chopsticks, which I might have to grab as I enjoy sushi / ramen and use chopsticks for those. I just saw they also introduced their own metal straw at some point, which extends and retracts sorta like a telescope mechanism that fits right in the little metal case for the utensils, so it won't take up any extra space in my bag. I'm a huge fan of their products and recommend them highly.

Fun story from my trip last week-

My group and I were refilling our water bottles at the Village Haus, and a lady came up behind us holding like 4 nalgenes and said "Hey, I just want to say thank you for doing your part to save the planet by using reusable bottles".

My group and I just kinda looked at eachother and were like "Water bottles here are like $4 each, we're just cheap!" haha.

I found a set (from a different company) on Amazon that includes chopsticks as well. Cheaper, too.

It’s a simple and yet genius idea.

According to Micechat, the paper straws are being phased out and the whole Disneyland Resort will once again have plastic straws in all restaurants.

I prefer a silicone straw. Flexible and no metal detector issues. I also carry a titanium folding spork unless I'm going somewhere I fear it might be confiscated, then I take one of the themed plastic sporks you could buy at the Tropical Hideaway.

We bring our own compostable/marine degradable straws. Why Disney can't use these is beyond me. They are less expensive than most paper straws and are actually better for the environment as they are generally made from food waste products, such as the husks from corn that would normally be thrown away or composted anyway. And they generally feel and work like standard plastic straws.

They should be using similar items for disposable cutlery and disposable plates, etc.

I wonder what the paper straws cost vs plastic- If I had to guess the plastic ones are far cheaper. Combine that with the poor quality of paper straws and I'm assuming tons of customer complaints, I'm not surprised the plastic is coming back.
This doesn't have to be all or nothing, there are compostable straws made from what would otherwise be food waste that acts like regular plastic, but is compostable, even some that are marine degradable now.

Are they still doing the "no lids" thing too? It was great seeing them hand moms a tray with food and five large lid-less drinks to carry like it was some type of challenge. Then they'd have to walk as slow as possible.

Why don’t they just do those sippable lids like Starbucks has? Cheapek that’s why
