Disney Parks Don't Have the Market on Entitled Guests...

I don't believe the 24 week cutoff has anything to do with Zika; Zika-related birth defects have been observed based on infections through the whole course of pregnancy, not just at or after 24 months. In fact, evidence shown shies a much higher risk of birth defects if infection ocuured in the first trimester.

No, I think it has everything to do with fetuses typically being considered viable at 24 weeks and that cruise ships are not equipped with OB and neonatal units.
The Zika reasoning was in response to my doctor advising me against cruising in general throughout the entire term - it wasn’t related to the cruise industry’s 24-week policy (which I totally understand!).

What @Figment82 said. I was asking about cruising while pregnant, prior to 24 weeks.. I understand the 24+ week policy.

I wouldn't go so far as to say this was an intentional publicity stunt. I think it's far more likely a lot of money was invested into this trip (airfare and cruise tickets for 10 certainly has to be close to 20k, right?), everyone was looking forward to it, subsequently found out she was pregnant and would not make it based on how far along she would be at embarkation, they all decided to go anyway with the hopes the doctor letter, a sympathetic CM and a little pressure would get her on board.

Because, after all, she was only 25 weeks. And then the next woman would come along and say, "But I'm only 26 weeks, and you let her board at 25 weeks" and so on. The same with any rule that has a cut-off line - many people think they can get around it because "I'm sooo close - can't you just let me slip by?"

On the Guest Information page of Online Check-In is asks if anyone in the part is 24+ weeks pregnant or will be during the sailing. The booklets that they mail out also state it clearly.

I also fault the parents as they either failed to read or ignore the ToS. The entitled mentality came from somewhere. The reports of the father being irate speaks just as loud as anything else.

Here are some of the manners in which they ensure the policy is known.

Thanks. I knew it was somewhere in that document.

Imagine if DCL had let her "slip through" and something had happened while she was onboard. Not like the ships have a helicopter landing pad. That would mean a race to a port or meeting the Coast Guard for a mid-ocean transfer. She'd blame DCL for not following their policy.

Depending upon the Castaway Cay Club level, their on-line check-in would open at:

120 days (Platinum)
105 days (Gold)
90 days (Silver)
75 days (first time)
Before departure

Sorry, I don't buy the excuse that until they showed up at the port on departure day, she didn't know. As @ScoutN showed, it's on the contract. Which you have to mark Yes or No. And every adult has to sign that contract. Which now explains why she had the doctor's note.

Even at Platinum level check-in, you'd know you were pregnant - you'd be about 7 weeks. Furthermore, even if they were 1st timers, as long as they cancelled by 75 days prior to departure (which would be both their check-in and final payment due date), they'd get a full refund. Which is provided in documentation DCL sends you.

Trying to cause a scene by recording. What was the "heated comment" I wonder.
It was (according to her, still think she’s saving her butt)her father said “you are treating us like 2nd class citizens I saw it on the news as she was saying her next word she got cut off. LMBO

I can only imagine what the "heated remark" from her father was that prompted and armed response.

From my understanding you can hear him in the video yelling "Whats taking so long" when the port employees were trying to locate the luggage amongst thousands. Really quite shameful this whole thing, that family deserved nothing for how they treated the whole situation.

Just completed check-in for our July cruise. For every passenger under the reservation, you must answer yay or nay if anyone will be 24 or more weeks pregnant at the time of the cruise. And if you answer yes, you're told they can't sail. So they lied on that form every person has to sign.
