News Disney Park Pass System announced for Walt Disney World theme park reservations

The answer is when Universal opens its new park and if they see enough people going there, not going to Disney, and they find out cumbersome garbage like park reservation systems and whatnot is why.
EU is going to eat more into the other Universal Parks then it will the Disney parks. And don't think Universal won't leverage the demand to attend a new park with new rides into increased costs.

How does hopping work with days like today when all reservations are showing gone? Do they still open hopping, or does it automatically mean no hopping?

Hopping is still allowed after 2pm unless specified otherwise in MDE.

The 2 PM time frame comes from the data. Around that time, attendance starts dropping at all parks until it hits a 4 PM low. So, WDW allows hopping at that time because more people will be leaving than arriving.

That wasn’t my point. Of course they will raise the price. But I keep hearing from everyone Universal overall now is a better experience than Disney. If that doesn’t change and with a new park coming? It will absolutely eat in to Disneys business. People will say why would I pay $500 a night to stay there and deal with park reservations, Genie+, lightning lanes, things still not back after the pandemic, when I go stay at Universal hotels for less and not deal with this crap!

Again, if they get their act together this may not happen (and it might not happen anyway), but it very well could.

I think it'll eat into Universal's number for 6-12 months ahead of the park opening, but then a big increase and eat more into Disney's base once it opens. Pure speculation on my part, and I guess that depends on what or whether WDW is getting around the same time. So far it seems like nothing.

That hasn’t worked for mk or mgm in close…really at all.

Why would you want it to? If you're at a busy park and see another one is slower - what are the odds it's MK or DHS? It's possible, I suppose, but I'd think it'd be more common for people with a DHS reservation and wanted to go over to Epcot or DAK instead.

Because all four need to balance out…

2 years from now it will be back to 3 of one and 1 of another again. That hasn’t worked for 20 years…it’s not gonna start working now

In my experience, it’s hard to predict. Sometimes it is indeed the case that Epcot is crazy and MK isn’t. DHS is usually busy during the day because it doesn’t have enough attractions.

That's the point. If one park is busier, wouldn't it bring balance if they went to a park that wasn't? It's a very easy solution, IMO. All it takes is the wave of a wand and you could go from being overwhelmed at DHS to strolling the World Showcase at EPCOT.

So what are you suggesting?

Question-
Does anyone here actually know what these recent attendance caps are set to and has park attendance been really close to the max for weeks now?

It seems like chapek talks out of both sides of his mouth on attendance. It’s easy to say attendance has been down and is a problem before quarterly financials are released, then the numbers come out and “ooh it’s record profits per guest, thanks genie+! Oh yeah and we’re capped on attendance in February.”

Next he will blame worker shortages since park attendance is capped.

Then he will blame inflation and talk about how Disney is still such a great value even with higher multi day ticket prices.

And by then the next quarter financials will come out and show more money being taken overall and more per person, and they’ll need to figure out how to keep even more money flowing.

Maybe they could have a system where really rich people pay cast members to walk their groups to the front of the lines of the bigger group of somewhat rich people who paid extra to ride rides in lightning lanes. Because that group is now waiting an hour or more and Disney had to shut down the standby line for the massive number of poor people who could only afford a $6000 family vacation while 98% of the country just watches other peoples vacations on social media. Oh crap, we do have that already. That, and people who can afford the most expensive resorts get two extra hours in a park once per week.

I cannot speak to numbers -- it has been my experience that the parks are crowded -- walkways tend to be rather crowded -- truly seems like there is not enough to do -- restaurants always seem to have room but no availability so they do not appear to be running optimally at the moment -- we had plans to be in the studios today, was hearing it has been very busy -- I expected it to be worse than what it felt like to me (but we did stuff like eat, shop, walk around) -- one thing I did hear in passing was someone mention that the ILL for RotR was gone by 7:03 -- I know Polk county was out of school today (so those kids have a four day weekend) and northern areas have started having breaks at their schools -- but here is a pic from this afternoon:

Not if they staffed the park with lower expected attendance with fewer cast members.

So what are you suggesting?

I'm not suggesting anything, you can already change your park if there's availability at the park you want to visit. I've done it myself.

I booked Magic Kingdom once. On the day I was supposed to visit, I looked at the wait times before entering and saw that it had longer lines than normal, so before I got to the park, I changed my reservation to EPCOT, which had significantly shorter wait times. No issues getting into EPCOT and we had a great day.

EDIT: To do this, you just go to "Modify Reservation" and you should be able to change it to any other available park. This option may need you to use a browser, not the app. I don't see the option on the app. You can also cancel your reservation and make a new one entirely, although, the modify reservation feature exists so that way you don't have to do that.

However, I believe if I didn't initially change my reservation and walked into Magic Kingdom, didn't have a good time due to the crowds, all I would probably have to do is talk to guest services and if EPCOT was still available to reserve for other guests, they would probably be kind enough to let me go to EPCOT. That's at the discretion of the CM - always be nice if that answer is "no", but in my experience, it never hurts to ask if that's what you want.

This only would work if you could reserve the park "today" (the day of). I very frequently reserve parks on the day of with no issues. You just have to do it before you tap the turnstile. I usually reserve right before I leave home. Of course, this week coming up wouldn't work out too well for that - but - it's the exception rather than the rule.

It’s staffing micromanaged to the penny.

they’re great with data…no ones better…and this is for financial gain. Like everything else today.

why would they “trap” you in a crowded park?

a theory? Keeping people in a crowded park causes them to release “it” when they get to the ugly sisters on crescent lake later or springs.

and by “it”…I mean their wallets. Psychology.
Wow! I learn so much here. I usually don't post because I have no information or knowledge. But I appreciate you and everyone here for helping me to understand so many things.

I don’t know their angles for certain…but I can take guesses from past experiences. I’m just saying that could be an angle.
