Well with L&S it looks to me like Disney is on an upward trend again. IMHO things were great through TLK, and then, well, sort of took the plunge down Splash Mountain with Pocahontas & Hunchback. Things seemed better w/ Hercules, Mulan, etc...gotta wonder WHAT they were thinking with Emperor...

Anyhow, I saw L&S opening night and it was one of the best recent Disney movies I saw. I was cracking up the whole time. Any news on what's next for Disney?

Next is Treasure Planet and the Re-issue of Lion King in IMAX at the end of the year. Both of which look amazing.

But then we have Home on the Range (2D) about talking cows and Finding Nemo (3D) about talking fish. Both of which look rubbish.

Then Bears (2D) that looks (well sounds, I haven't seen any pictures except the title) absolutely amazing.

Unfortunatley there are other projects that sound bad
Tuck Everlasting
Country Bears
My Peoples
Chicken Little

and good
Pirates of the Carribean
Haunted Mansion
Snow Queen

Bit of a mixed bag really.

I am a big fan of Disney movies and must admit that Atlantis was a bust as far as I'm concerned. After seeing the previews for Treasure Planet, I am afraid Disney is going to fall down again. Atlantis wasn't a true hit among movie fans and I doubt Treasure Planet will either.

Lilo and Stitch rocked though.

Yeah, TP looks like it could be a bust. I can't really tell from the trailer though. I guess we should be glad for L&S.

I Think Atlantis was a AWESOME movie! action and adventure along with Disney Magic, the score was amazing. i love this movie. the collector's edition of the DVD is just Superb! makes you understand why this movie was made it awesome!

and Treasure Planet look soooo cool! i cant wait! Disney definetly make more movies like that! not just fairytales and stuff!

You know, I still can't understand why people didn't like The Emperor's New Groove! I don't think I ever laughed so much in a single movie, the jokes are awesome, and they're non stop. Klonk must be the best henchman ever! And who doesn't laugh at "I'm sorry, but you seem to have cut the Emperor's groove."
I like this movie so much more then Hunchback or Mulan.

As for Atlantis, it wasn't bad. I just think it had too many characters for you to care, and not enought time to do it. It's a pity, the movie was promising.

And way to go Florida for Lilo & Stitch. I personally prefer traditional animation over CGI, and it's good to see Disney is still fighting not to let it disapear.

Don't count your chicken till they've hatched...

Lilo and Stitch (which by the way, kicked ) has been Disney's (not counting Pixar) first real hit animated feature in 3 years (Tarzan, in 1999 was the last one to be somewhat succesful, but it was followed up by Mulan that same year, which was an absolute flop).

Disney has had 1 real hit in 3 years... don't let them off that easy. They still have to reprove themselves in the animation dept.

Weird, talking cows?! I find that all Pixar movies have been great so far, so I have high hopes for Finding Nemo.

ok.. let me rephrase it then...

In 1999 I moved from Puerto Rico (which gets Disney movies up to 3 months later (not often, but is has happened)) back to the mainland, so that may have attributed to me seeing them in the wrong order. As for my research, to get the dates, I looked them up on movies.com, a DISNEY-OWNED site, and I went by those dates.

As for Mulan flopping... it sure did. Disney's expectations and spending on it were too high, not to mention it's lack of draw at movie theatres.

Regardless, it did terribly. Most families I know didn't bother to see it. Their kids weren't even the slightest bit interested. And off the internet, I don't know ANY adults who saw it other than myself and whoever it was I dragged along with me. Now and then, Disney tries something a little too different and people don't like it: Fantasia (horrible failure in its day), The Black Cauldren, Atlantis, and possibly Treasure Planet...we will have to wait and see!

FYI Stitchaholic... never challenge a contributer... its not wise when you only have 6 post. It creates a bad first impression.

Lilo & Stitch in my opinion could very well be a saving grace for Disney's traditional animation department. Disney really needs to stick with fun stuff like that. Leave the budget-busting, wild-risk stuff to Dreamworks, who has been doing a great job with it. Disney NEEDS to stick to fairy-tales and comedies like L&S and Emporer's New Groove (which is uproarously funny). Atlantis, and Treasure Planet dont even look like Disney, which is the main reason people arent seeing them. They are darker, and more serious. Dreamworks can pull that stuff. Disney can too, but I am not going to go see a movie that is obviously Disney attempting to succeed with the same formula the SKG dream team can use. Give me another animal movie before another sci-fi...

Bad news... The creators of Lilo and Stitch are leaving Disney to start their own production company. Looks like Eisner has succeeded in running more great talent away from Disney.

I don't want to get into this debate but here are the actual numbers from IMDB. The budget for Mulan was $70,000,000 and the final USA box office was $120,569,593!
