okay, today at work, i was having a conversation with several associtates who have been to wdw world before.

two of them wanted to correct me several times about WDW being the place with the castle...

i tried my hardest to tell them that WDW is the name of the entire resort property, and the place with the castle is The MK... so anyway, it took a while, and one girl still didn't really believe it... but i didn't want to be in an 'argument' because we were play-fighting about it, on fun terms...

then... they both said they went to disney world (MK), epcot and universal studios, and i was like... oh... that's cool, did you ride back to the future, or go to islands of adventure, and they both were like...

"...ummm, that wasn't there on our trip, we rode the ToT, and RNRC, and blah blah blah..."

it took me forever, AND A DAY to convince them that they were at the Disney-MGM Studios, then i started thinking how MANY people i've corrected on this. so many people are familiar with the words UNIVERSAL STUDIOS, and not the Disney-MGM Studios, that they assume it's part of the disney orlando vacation.

i think the studios should change their name to something like, The Disney Movie Experience or something without the name, STUDIOS... i mean, they really aren't a working studio anymore, and if they need to keep studios, they should just change it like Paris' to The Walt Disney Studios, or something?

i know this will not happen on my request, but just wanted to share the comical situation. one girl, who thought that the resort at first was called Disneyland, wanted to ARGUE ME DOWN saying that the MK was WDW... i wanted to say, "we learned about your kind on MK training day..."
and we did!

Actually... if you believe Jim Hill (big grain o salt there) They just might be changing the name to "The Walt Disney Studios" by the end of the year, due to the rights to use the MGM name will have run out.

i think this would help distinguish, for non disney fans, between universal, and mgm.

being both big movie co. names, i can see where people just assume that disney's is universal, because everyone knows that the big universal theme park is in orlando...

thanks dave!

Sometimes the disney busses say disney studios. I also have some pins that say disney studios only.

Pal Mickey refers to it at the movie studios. So maybe they will change it.

Even the 2004 vacation planning video calls it "Disney Studios".

I get annoyed when people mess up the park names too. For example, they'll say they want to spend 3 days at Disney and ask me the best way they should allot their time. And I'll respond with "1 day MK, 1 day Epcot, 1/2 day MGM, 1/2 day AK" or something like that. And they'll say, "NO - we just want to go to DISNEY, not Epcot or anything else". And I'm like, 'Ohhh you mean the MAGIC KINGDOM". People don't get it.

I think it is going to be "The Disney Studios Park," but given the theming of it all, I think a better name would be "The Disney Hollywood Park."

I know, I know. It'll never catch on, but Hollywood Blvd, Sunset Strip, Hollywood Tower Hotel, backlot tour, stars and motor cars, Chinese Theater . . . I could go on and on (even more than I already have). It all spells Hollywood Theme Park.

^ Except for the whole Streets of America area, that screams New York, Chicago, and San Francisco.

I agree with that they'll most likely just change it to The Disney Studios, that seems to be what they keep reffering to it as. My family always just refers to the park as MGM Studios, or MGM for short. We've always just dropped off the Disney part, must be part of the whole lazy Canadian thing.

i think that's a great idea, or just Disney's Hollywood, or Disneywood? LOL! i'm so just kidding about Disneywood, Dollywood anyone?

 ^ Except again, that those "Streets of America" are Hollywood-like facades/backdrops. I have a strong feeling that even if MGM is dropped from the name, people are going to be calling it "MGM" for a loooong time.

I just got a shot glass from there and it say The Walt Disney Studios. Isn't going to be kind of expensive to change all this stuff?

Not really, they sell off what they have left that says Disney/MGM studios and have probably been getting things that just say Disney Studios or Walt Disney Studios made instead. It's most likely that when they order replacement merchandise to be made(shirts for example) they are slowly changing the percentages so that by the time this year is nearing the end, they will have very little left that says MGM on it and mostly have what they will need for the name change, if the name change happens.

Yes, I agree that it will take a LONG time for people to drop the MGM moniker if they ever do.
I do like MKCP1985's idea of "The Disney Hollywood Park " , especially since Disneyland has DCA, (which sould have been a Florida experience instead!!) the whole studios experience could be a California Experience. Of course then they'd have to move California Soarin from EPCOT. Oh never mind..

My family and I have always just refered to it as simply MGM and that's it...It was never, "Hey there loving family! How do we all feel about visiting the Disney-MGM Studios today?" No, it has ALWAYS been just MGM. And for us it probably always will be...

They never seem to have settled on a name - as far back as 1993 its officially been called The Disney Studios, The Disney MGM Studios, The Disney Studios park, The Dsney MGM Studios park, The Disney MGM Studios theme park....

And yes, on June 27th the MGM contract expires.

Well, there are a lot of people (myself included) who sometimes slip and call Epcot "EPCOT Center." Everyone still knows what I'm talking about. Ditto for any name change at the Studios - people will adapt, or not :)
