I think we all need to be respectful when people do want to mask. I don't ever judge. I know people who are wearing even with sniffles and such. Not all fear, not all care. If you don't have rules, you do as you wish. I watch the schools selling stuff at lunch and there is still maybe 5-10% who do wear. Truthfully too if someone asked me to wear indoors at their home I would too. Respecting others is big.Perhaps a bit too broad of an assumption about mask wearing.I‘ve many friends who have been visiting WDW since it reopened and most continue to wear a mask (because the pandemic is not over). It has zero to do with their individual political beliefs, but rather because they feel safer wearing a mask.
It is the same where I live (red southern state)…mask mandates are a thing of the past for now, but about 30% of people still wear a mask inside stores and restaurants. I respect whatever each person decides is right for them.
I don't think Disney has a say in Shanghai DL

Correct point! Disney does not have much of a say if any about S.D. A good move would be to divest itself of S.D., cut loses and concentrate on the properties where Disney does have say.
No need for an S.D. mask policy since S.D. is closed.

No freak out, per se, but weren’t we supposed to get guidelines on when/how they’d remove the mandate? That was part of the message last month when they extended. If the uptick in cases is keeping us above whatever threshold (new hospitalizations are modestly up, nationally, as well), then fine. Just be transparent. That has been my biggest beef since the very beginning.

From what I've observed at WDW, fewer than 10% of the people in the parks are wearing masks (it was similar in the hotels and casinos in Vegas last month) while in general closer to 30% seem to still wear them in central Florida. That's why it seems to me that the vast majority of people who feel safe doing leisure activities at all feel that masking is not necessary. For people under 60 who continue to voluntarily wear masks I'd be willing to bet that 90% or more identify with one particular political party.Perhaps a bit too broad of an assumption about mask wearing.
Whatever somebody wants to do is fine with me and whatever their reasoning doesn't really matter to me. What is not fine with me is continuing to be forced to wear one while on a mode of transportation because it makes other people feel safer. They can wear an N95 around me and I would be essentially no risk to them even if I wasn't vaccinated and boosted.
This is likely to keep getting extended out of an abundance of caution in perpetuity. How about the CDC tries an experiment and removes the mandate and observes if there is any statistically significant increase in severe outcomes or spread that can be associated with the removal of the mandate. If there is, they can reinstate it. Policy shouldn't be made based on the fear of what might happen.

Mask observations we had at Disney. There were rare times we saw 20-30% masked in queues. Most I'd say 5% or less. Transportation way more. Mostly 75% or above. I do wonder if that will slowly start to drop.
I read about China since we discussed Shanghai. Out of 20k+ cases just over 1000 positives were symptomatic. They're in crazy lock down mode again though.

I would be very surprised if we do not see a small increase in cases in the US over the next 2 weeks as some of the larger states gets a small BA.2 bump. So with that being said, I assume another extension after this one...

Some areas are seeing a small bump. My area has seen a super minor one for a month now give or take. The levels might vary a ton from region to region. My region is stating over 70% of cases are BA.2. Cases up a tiny bit, but hospitalizations and deaths are down. Cases are still low enough to be mask free happily.

No, it will keep getting shorter and shorter. July 3, 2022 9:05 am: “The Centers of Disease Control announced today that they are extending the TSA mask mandate by 24 minutes to observe any potential increased spread amongst airline passengers delayed because of the National flight attendant shortage. Updated to come in 22 minutes.”
