It is the new normal in some businesses who choose to lay out policy and enforce it. If one tries to act out like a foolish Karen ( ie. on an aircraft ) get ready to pose for one's mugshot and see the inside of a jail cell.
It's still not normal, and will never be.
The "Karen" thing really needs to be laid to rest now, it's so played out.
As for me, I will wear a mask where it is required (and only where it is required) but that doesn't make it normal.

You'll eventually get used to it after this mask policy carries on for a few more years.
Nope. When my AP expires in June I will not renew if they still have the policy. I won't return to WDW (or any business excluding health care that requires masks when not required by law) until the policy is changed.

I do believe that as a result of COVID a good number of people will become more conscious of their behavior when they are sick and will be more inclined to stay home/wear masks to avoid spreading disease. People who are more susceptible to illness may even choose to wear masks to crowded places like WDW. In that sense, mask-wearing may become more acceptable and less noticeable. But I would hope the powers that be tread very carefully before imposing any such mandates in the future.

Wow some strange posts going on here.

Who cares what the current mask policy at this point. It is what it is.

This will all be over in a few months.

I think we forget how quickly people dropped masking last time restrictions where relaxed.

Simple facts are as follows.

After this wave passes, we will be quickly pivoting towards an endemic disease that is not dangerous to those who are vaccinated.

Nothing is stopping those who wish to mask from continuing to do so.

The rest of us will return to normal and we can get back to arguing about rides and prices, instead of masks and vaccines.

If only a whole lot more WDW potential guests felt that way <sigh>. When I did a WDW solo visit in Sep. 2020 it was during the height of the pandemic and lots of people were apparently either extra cautious about being in a large group setting, didn't want to fly or were protesting having to wear a mask at WDW, anywhere within the park. Crowds were low, lines were short and I had a great masked time.

When I returned last year, hoping for a similar experience, it seemed like no one cared that there was still a pandemic going on. 2.5 hours in RotR standby line (no ILL option yet) and long waits just about everywhere else, too.

take it you've never been to Japan or South Korea in the wintertime. Masks are a normal park of civil public life during cold and flu season.

when people were sick.
I've been on the Yamanote line many many times. In Tokyo they were not wearing "just to wear" as if that is the norm. They wore if they were feeling not so good or had runny noses and the like.

false equivalency: traditional mask wearing of far East cultures when feeling a bit ill vs today's USA and many other places of wearing with no sickness

Masks are a religion. Science has shown that most do nothing. I’m an atheist. I will not wear them. I would say a minimum of 40% if not higher pulled them off on every ride at Disneyland last week. Even the cast members said to just take them off once the ride starts. People are done, people won’t put up with it. I am people.

Masks will become the new normal if and when people see the value in wearing them and do so voluntarily. If masks are being mandated and people are arguing, fighting and refusing to comply, that’s how you’ll know they are not the new normal.

What is with the worship of masks by some people here?

If you like them fine no one is going to stop you from wearing them.

Kind of weird how obsessed some of you are with trying to make them a social norm.

Covid will not last forever and neither will masking.

Maybe you can move to Japan?

I think this is a bit harsh don't you think?

I don't like masks. I can live with or without them though. I honestly don't see why some insult others for feeling differently.

Though flaunting rules bugs me as a rule follower and causes severe eye roll but that's it.

I hate masks as much as anyone, especially for kids, but I don't understand people who don't have common courtesy for service workers. The cashier at Satuli Canteen or my flight attendant might hate them just as much as I do, but their boss says they have to wear them and they have to make sure I do too. I'm not going to be a jerk and make their job more difficult.

Very true! I personally haven't seen a whole lot of jerks while flying or being inside eating at Disney. Granted I didn't do a ton of indoor eating in November as I was alone, but in June I think people were just happy that outside they didn't have to wear. People who are contrary just to be contrary are not cool to me IMO. Not talking forgetting (can happen really) or when a mask is lost or broken (also possible), but the ones who complain and knowingly try to break rules is just not okay.

I have an older kid so no issues with masks for him. We do just fine with them indoors and such. No issues on planes or rides. Mostly because I try to not make life difficult for others working.

I assume there is data from 2019 and prior which clearly shows how much lower percentage of the Japanese population gets the flu every year vs. other countries that do not have a masking culture? To be considered valid and not mask propaganda, preferably the studies and/or articles will have been published prior to March 2020.

Even pre covid, I've seen fellow guests take their frustrations out on service workers in a number of industries. Some feel that the louder they yell and get the attention of their supervisor, they may get some compensation in return.
