I talked about my concern up thread - basically that other studies find effects between even very small changes in air pollution and things like concentration, mood, and academic performance. So it seems to be that upping CO2 levels in the dead spaces of a mask even a little would certainly mimic this.CO2 is 0.04% of the atmosphere. Tiny increases may effect the climate but they won't effect air quality or breathing as long as the O2 concentration stays where it is.
I don't know why it would be so difficult to set up a mask with sensors and measure everything while a kid (or adult) breathes.
I agree that of course you’re not going to put on a mask and have some kind of health issue from CO2 inhalation. If that were the case people would have been passing out right and left since 2020. It’s more that I’m that mom with a giant air filter and plants in my son’s room because I want to maximize the air quality (random tip - areca palms are NASAa #1 rated plant in this arena). I drag myself outside far more often than is enjoyable for me so he can soak up the phytoncides and breath in the microbiome-enhancing soil spores or whatever. Admittedly I’m a bit neurotic on such topics, perhaps. So I’m of course not enthused about something that could potentially be the equivalent of sitting him beside a major highway all day, even though of course one is not going to have some kind of massive health issue from that.
