Pretty much pointless, but they add about 20 seconds to the arrival process so I don't mind. Temp checks + new bag check is still probably 10 mins faster on most days than no temp checks + old back check system.
What's the new bag check again? It wasn't there when we went last year

we originally had a "masks outdoors only when distancing is not possible", but people wouldn't do it...so the governor changed it to "masks outside in public regardless of distance"...and that is still in effect.
And did people do it?

You're state must be more compliant than mine. Even though we were amongst the hardest hit.
I'm in MA. We were a hot-spot early on.

I think we got compliance because there's no ifs, ands or buts, and there's a fine they can levy against you if you don't comply (I think it's $300, not that I know of anyone being fined).

ETA: There are STILL those who won't follow the rules if they think they can get away with it, but for the most part, compliance is high. (The people who wear it under the nose or so loose you can see their mouths while indoors make me want to smack them.)

I don't trust the general public as far as I can throw them. We've all seen people starting fistfights over being asked to wear a mask inside a store - you think those people won't lie?
Fights are happening because there are some in the general public that feel like it is a good idea to harass and ridicule non mask wearers. They need to alert the store management and let them deal with it. The mask shaming Karen's are far more irritating then the covid deniers.

Okay. I'm all for following science and understand why at this point we still have restrictions, but I'm not for keeping any restrictions longer than needed because some vaccinated (or otherwise) people are still scared to go back to normal.

I mean we are still basing this all on science, right?
No. We're getting close to basing this on feelings and needs.

No. Every instance I've seen is people becoming belligerent because they were asked by staff to put on a mask. A man in the town next to us attacked a store employee and other customers had to hold him down until police arrived.

And they've been out there harrassing folks since everything started.

What do you all think of temperature checks?
Temp checks is the one that generally annoys me. Partly because I'm tired of having to do one every time I go to work as well. If I'm actually running a fever, I'm not going to feel like going anywhere but back to bed. DH was flagged multiple times at local parks and had to go to a tent, wait 15 minutes then rechecked fine. Normal range is on the higher side.
I know there's plenty people that would also just try to tough it out because Disney isn't a cheap vacation though. Unfortunately a couple Tylenol and someone can just slip by as well.

Because it'll keep you and your family from getting sick? Which is, at the end of the day, more important than needing to wear a mask in a theme park.

Do you really think I want restrictions to end just so I don't have to wear a mask for one week out of one year at Disney?
No, it's bigger than that.

I probably will get booster for my parent's sake, but my point is if we keep restrictions for much longer, I really don't see people jumping to get vaccinated....

Wait, they'll be more apt to get vaccinated if restrictions go away?

Nothing personal (or maybe it is), but I know what conversations with you are like, so think what you will.

For the record, I have been pro-masks, pro-restrictions and pro-vaccines this entire time.

No, I'm really asking what the correlation is with eliminating restrictions as a means of incentive for folks getting vaccinated. No shade here whatsoever.

Thanks. What do you do with large items? What about keys and cell phones?
Keys and phones can all stay in pockets/bag. If you have a large metal item (umbrella, water bottle, external charger) you just hold it out in front of you and walk through. I have a big external charger that I always have to hold out, but small ones I'm sure are fine.

I think (and can't say for certain) but some thought of those still on "fence" is that why should we get vaccinated and still have to wear masks, etc. - while at first I didn't agree with that line of thought, as time goes on and soon vaccine will be available to anyone who wants (already is in a lot of places) if people don't see a benefit to getting vaccine, they may think why bother.

I just think the "get vaccinated" campaign could have been done with a bit more of a positive spin, especially now.
