Disney Lawn Flamingos - Paint is fading

Hello,

I bought two of the new Flamingo lawn ornaments in Febuary. They have been outside, under a tree, for about a month now and it seems that the pink paint had faded. :( Is anyone else having this problem, and what do you think I can do about it?

They are made to be displayed outdoors, they should be able to withstand the sunlight.

The finishes on Disney's outdoor products is notoriously bad. I have Fantasia sculptures and a bird bath and all have finish issues. I'll wager that in a couple of more months the paint will actually begin to flake off. All you can do it either return them or repaint them.

What a shame, Disney quality should be better.

These are the one I have. We just picked them up at the Disney outlet store for $10 a piece. All of mine had a sticker on them indicating that they will fade in direct sunlight.

WOW!!!!! I guess they had a lot of problems with them, I was going to return them the next time I head over there. I paid $25.00 each for my two. There was NO sticker, HUGE flaw. What a shame.

That it is and it is a shame too. I have quite a bit of Disney outdoor sculptures and none of the finishes are faring well. I expect fading to some degree but paint coming off I do not. I am going to attempt to regularly treat the flamingos with automotive wax and see how they fare. They are also not in direct sunlight which should help as well. I am also plan on refinishing some of the other pieces I have and see if I can do a better job then they did.

I have some of the Fantasia ones and I'm hoping to repaint them too. What do you plan to use on them?

I'm so sad that I don't have any of these pink flamingos. My development has a strict 'no lawn flamingos' policy. I hate the homeowner's association here so I am a habitual offender when it comes to this rule. :lookaroun I always have a flamingo or two somewhere in my landscaping. A flamingo with Mickey ears would be an excellent addition to the neighborhood.

I have the same ones and I have not quite decided yet. The first thing is figuring out how to strip the existing paint without damaging them. I will more than likely start with Krylon fusion as it is easy to get and fairly inexpensive. If that does not work I will go to airbrushing them with a high end plastic model paint

My husband suggested model paint too. I don't want to ruin them, but they're pretty unsightly now anyway.

...Can there be anything that you can decorate outside your house? I'd hate to live in such a strict community like that....

Nothing decorative outside. No trash cans in the back yard. About 5 colors of exterior paint to choose from. Certain types of windows and doors. The list goes on and on. The HOA has gotten really crazy the last few years...hence my rebellion. About 5 years ago I was at the helm of a development-wide lawn flamingo-ing. The flamingos increased in quantity gradually all over the neighborhood. One night 74 of them just magically migrated over to the lawn of the President of the HOA. I have no idea how they got there. :lookaroun

Love it!

We had a neighborhood flock that used to appear whenever anyone went away on vacation. They were also known to hold up signs announcing births, engagements, and, well, various other newsworthy events. :o

I've always wanted one of those flamingos that you can dress up for the different holidays. Disney needs to make those.
