My guess with the return of the Nemo musical they don't want to bottleneck that area having 2 daytime shows going on at once can cause that issue..

Even with Nemo slashed to bits, this show simply wasn't pulling the people in that they thought it would, mainly because it is not anywhere near the quality of Disney's shows that people have come to expect. That's why it got cut.

Maybe they'll start working on a nighttime show for AK (ROL or a replacement). I know it's not likely, but I can hope. I'd like to think that they would want to use the auditorium they built in some way.
I'd assume they'll want something that can be a dining package upsell like the RoL had. But without a night show, they can close before nighttime and save a ton in operating expenses.

Are they really saving that much? Animal Kingdom (without a night show) currently closes at 8 p.m. Hollywood Studios and Epcot (both with night shows) close at 9 p.m. Can 1 hour really save that much?

The show was really fun in the longer version, especially the Jungle Book one. They just needed to figure out how to do something with the puppets for the FP area. What ended up happening is that the FP area had a worse view than the regular one did IIRC.

It might, depends what trend they've seen in crowds the last hour. Does it balance out the operating costs?

DAK is pretty empty past 7PM on any given day. There's just not enough attractions to convince people to stay that late. Even with ROL showing, it wasn't enough.

Yes you would be surprised at how much trimming an hour off saves in operating costs, and maybe even more surprised at what lengths the company will go to in order to save costs.
