Disney is lying to us.

I was at Epcot yesterday and it was packed it could not of been at 35% capacity. I would say it was 50+ so why are they still doing Park reservations?

They're doing park reservations because it tells them how many people expect to visit a park on a given day, so they can adjust staffing and attraction capacity to the precise levels Disney prefers. In short, it saves Disney money and has nothing to do with capacity at this point.

Its 35% of maximum capacity, not estimated or daily.

Maximum capacity for Epcot is NEVER reached. It is probably somewhere in the 150,000 people range. MK is 85k-100k and is 1/3 the size. Epcot has far fewer attractions though, which brings the capacity number down, especially with FW being a construction zone.

At 150,000, 35% is over 50k. Thats A LOT of people to be in Epcot in a day.

I believe they told us weeks ago they were increasing attendance. I could have sworn Bob Chapek said it in answer to a question. They didn't give a number but I agree they are at 50% or even a little higher. Come October 1, everyone expects real full capacity, what most would call full, not New Years Eve or 4th of July but extremely crowded.

When we went in May for 2 weeks, there was still decreased numbers allowed, the beginning days were great. Crowds much lower than we had ever had for some years. Then just at the end of our trip Disney increased the numbers allowed in and the difference was very noticeable even at that time. How I'll determine when I go back for a lengthy future trip will be decided on how they start getting slammed.

Your numbers are off. Neither park is near 100,000. Both are in the 70-80k range today but the number holds less actual weight than it used to. Today it’s a fluctuating figure that’s more based on a capacity to clear the park under various scenarios on any given day as opposed to actual physical space.

I was just going off what I found with a quick search. With all that extra land it seems crazy it would be lower or similar to MK, though.

Even still, 35% of 70k is around 25,000 which would make Epcot seem busy considering you cant use half of the park.

They're not lying.
EPCOT's max capacity is 110,000 guests.
35% would be 38,500.
Pre pandemic the average daily attendance at EPCOT was 34,000.

At this point park reservations are more just so they have an idea of how many people will be in each park each day.

We went in February and it seemed crowded then. There were tons of kids too (considering it was a week day in February during a pandemic). In reality though, it wasn't. Full capacity is over packed so... I don't think I ever want to go during school breaks or summer ever again.

Are you sure you didn't go during a school break?
Many schools have President's Day week off.
And people were starting to get cabin fever by February.

Correct me if I am reading this wrong, but weren't park "reservations" happening before the Pandemic ever reared its ugly head? Aren't we getting that confused with park restriction numbers set in compliance with the protocol of Covid19? I don't know for sure what is happening but are they limited in the number of people that can be there due to Covid or is it just that they are using the system that commits a person to be in a specific park on a specific day so that there could be FP+'s picked out as the days base and Disney could keep the numbers balanced a little? I know I had to do that in September of 2019. Then if I wanted to use my park hopper later I could do that. I guess the thing would be if they requiring that you reserve a park or along with that they are limiting the numbers due to protocol of if anyone can score a reservation as long as each park hasn't exceeded the number of people that Disney want's in each park. I would say that the only ones that might be refused would be MK or DHS all the others will take as many as want to go there.

You've confused me...
There was no park pass reservation system in place prior to the reopening.
The system was first put in place due to capacity restrictions.
At this point restrictions have been lifted but Disney initially said that they were going to gradually increase their capacity but honestly I think they no longer have limits but want the park pass system in place still in order to know the approximate number entering each park on any given day prior to the day of.
What did you have to do in September 2019? Not book a park pass reservation.
Yes sure you may have decided which park on which day based on park hours and FP+ availability but you were not required to.
You could have made FP+s for a park you intended to hop to later.
You could have made just 1-2 at the first park and then booked via your phone for another park after tapping in for the first one.
You could have also just done everything on the fly. Picked which park the day of and got a FP+ then hopped and done the same then hopped and done the same all day.
