Disney is hiring 1000 full and part time workers for roles across the Walt Disney World Resort

Well if I had to choose between McDonald's, Wal-mart or a Disney part-time job I'd definitely pick Disney!
;)

As one that is expected to be laid of in the next month or so (company closing), I'd be thrilled if I lived close enough to the mouse when hiring lots of positions.

I guess Disney is doing better than expexted. 1000 employees is a little over 1.4% increase in jobs. Taking improved productivity based on comments from cast members comments Disney must be doing extremely well this year.

Truth is...we Guests keep helping Disney Parks and Resort segment reach record earnings and profit annually! It's our all important "per-guest-spending" rate that keeps 'em going so apparently "we" are doing it right.

This can not really be happening because all I read on this site is how bad Disney is doing and how Universal is beating them up. Honestly I think this may be another sign that things are starting to turn around at Walt Disney World.

How about shorter waits for buses? There has to be a silver lining:cool:
Part of the issue with inconsistent bus service is indeed a lack of drivers but realistically another big reason is mechanical failures. Within the past 16 months Disney has started addressing this issue with new busses but it will take some time to see improvements due to the time it will take to replace and or rebuild the bus fleet. Another secondary issue is the seemingly endless road construction on property. Thankfully most of these road improvements should be wrapped up by 2017 with the completion of Disney springs and the new bus stations at Magic Kingdom.

Alright, new bus drivers among the positions looking to be filled. Let the information data stream flow. Nothing like the news feeds coming from rookie bus drivers of WDW.

But on a serious note, I hope this helps some in desperate need for employment find a job. Though I'm sure it's far, far more part time than full time positions available.

And the pay will still suck.

You are confusing profits with show quality. Right now Universal is beating up Disney on show quality and park investment. Despite this WDW is still filling the parks. Both are making profits they are just doing it in different ways.

I wonder if any of the positions relate to an increase in maintenance staff. Would be nice to see a large uptick in major refurbs (similar to Splash recently). Almost all of EPCOT (minus Test Track) could use some TLC and same with a lot of DHS and the rest of MK.

Doubt it. All they do with their Maintenance Cast is keep the headcount the same (e.g. replacing people who leave/retire with new ones who will also make less). I doubt they'd increase the amount of people they have over just spreading more work across the same amount of people. Maintenance cast are extremely specialized and even with their apprenticeship programs that they have, they are still much more expensive than any front-line entry-level Cast Member. I'm certainly not arguing that Disney SHOULDN'T hire more maintenance but this is the sad truth.

Story is misleading. I know I posted it was an increase on 1.4% in employees but it turns out most of the jobs are due to retirements. I hate when stories like this come out and know I should wait until all the details come out.
