Disney Insider hints at D23 Expo "sneak peaks"

How is it certainly progress? You're thought exercise completely leaves out questions of story. Despite what so many profess, a great theme park is more than an assortment of great attractions.
It's progress cause it adds more things to do in a park in which guests spend a couple of hours and then leave.

And Avatar's story does fit into Animal Kingdom. It doesn't fit as naturally as Beastly Kingdom. But it does fulfill bringing past, present, and imaginary creatures to life. It also fits the conservation theme too. I prefer Beastly Kingdom or a Lion King area, but Avatar isn't a bad deal.

Update – /Film spoke with Imagineering who made it very clear that they will not be announcing any new Star Wars attractions at the D23 Expo and any “clues” or “teases” they are hinting will merely be the fact that they are indeed working on something, leaving it at that.

link?

It would make sense considering what Al Lutz said a few weeks ago:

With so many headliner additions slated for the parks in the next few years, you would think that would make next month’s D23 Expo a home-run of exciting announcements and lavish Imagineering artwork of the upcoming rides. But it appears the exact opposite will be true, as WDI has been warned by Burbank to keep their cards very close to their vest at D23 Expo while Comcast pours money into several new rides at Universal Studios up the freeway in Hollywood. And until the Board officially approves the big expenditures for Fiscal Year 2014 through ’17, it doesn’t look like the beans can be spilled in time for D23 Expo.

Star Wars, Avatar, and Marvel

Among the biggest projects to be included will be “teasers for new attractions based on Avatar and Star Wars” that are currently in development. The fact that Disney has admitted working on new Star Wars-based attractions is news unto itself. The D23 Expo will also feature an exhibit and presentation based on Star Wars.

In addition, Captain America will be meeting and greeting with guests in the Imagineering pavilion as a preview of Marvel’s Avengers Academy, debuting on the reimagined Disney Magic in October as Disney’s first permanent Marvel-based attraction. (It was previously revealed Spider-Man and Iron Man will also be meeting guests at the D23 Expo this year.)

Interesting blurb in the Orlando Business Journal in regards to the insider blog:

After this story was posted online earlier today, a Disney spokesman reached out and told me Fisher mischaracterized what the company will present at D23 Expo. The spokesman said the Star Wars and Avatar properties will make an appearance at the expo, but no new details will be shared. Fisher's statement on the Disney Insider blog has since been changed to say: "There will be teasers for Avatar and Star Wars at the Disney Parks, as well as Disney Springs, the re-imagining of Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World Resort."

Huh? Can someone at TWDC please get all your monkeys on the same page?

Basically everyone - we will promise to make no promies and talk in ciricles. Good thing, especially with Avatar, we are used to TWDC having no clue what their own plans are (Avatar - or as I call it - #PotterKneeJerkReactionRide)

No, Iger said they were working on Star Wars stuff for the parks a month or two back. I want to say it was during an earnings call or something, but I'm not 100 percent sure on that.

Well, the Iger comments were more generic, like "we will be looking into using Star Wars in the parks" kind of thought. Not specific plans. They were more open ended. This information looks more like someone saying that plans are actively being developed for park stuff which is further along than what Iger suggested.

Maybe that's a bit nuanced, but it's an important distinction to me.

That's true. Iger was just making the point that Disney was going to be all about Star Wars and would look for new opportunities to bring them into the parks in order to excite Star Wars fans and to let investors know they want to maximize profit from this IP.

Part of why Disney put out the very public questionnaire concerning Star Wars land was to let the Anaheim City Council know that they want the street car (with special modifications for the resort area), so that they can do the third gate if they so choose. DLR is already pretty congested . . . they put the same pressure on Anaheim when they pitted them against Longbeach. Of course, a theme park did arise in the parking lot, likely a StarWarsland will get built somewhere.

Avatarland aside, WDA will be coming out with a lot of animal/creature films in the next half decade, Zootopia featuring a fox and other animals, Giants, and a movie set in Polynesia, including Easter Island, tiki gods, and gigantic statues that talk.

Pretty cool.

I'd rather see a Polynesia themed area of AK than Avatarland, but that's just me . . .
