Disney in 2010 article - 5th gate?

I posted this in a different site, but keep in mind I know next to nothing about what's in the company's best interest:

I'd believe something like DisneyQuest in Toronto, but not the purchase of another company's park. I'd rather have Disney build those smaller localized experiences than purchase a property and try to build from there.

Though if Disney were to create a full-fledged destination themselves up here, they'd literally triangulate their North American theme park market: Florida, California, and because 2/3 of the Canadian population lives here, somewhere in Ontario. Obviously the year-round thing might be a problem... seems when people think "Disney parks" they think "tropical"... but Paris seems to do just fine with the snow.

...Actually, the more I think about it, the more it seems Disney could tap into the wintertime recreation market. (Disney on Ice nonwithstanding. )

This is an interesting article, but the author is writing it as if he is in the year 2010.

"That's right. You're still ankle-deep into 2008, aren't you? I've been taking an "unauthorized field trip" through time this week, checking in on what many of my favorite companies are up to two years later. Think you know Disney? You won't believe what the company is up to in 2010."

It sounds cool, but it's not real.

I would normally tend to agree that this is rubbish as well. However, Rick Munarriz isn't known for publishing crap and he is definately in-the-know.
Obviously we'll all eventually find out being that it would be rather difficult to keep this quiet much longer.

As for the Slantinel, I don't put much faith in anything they publish. They take jabs at Disney every chance they get. Disney is doing just fine. I'd go as far as saying they are doing outstanding.

Tokyo Disneyland does fine with the snow too.

I don't want Disney to build a full fledged resort in Toronto, but I wouldn't mind some indoor entertainment thing (but not Disney Quest). If Disney did built one theme park there, it would draw people from major North Eastern US cities like Chicago and New York because it would be cheaper for them to come up here then to go down to Orlando. I've thought allot about it before about whether or not they would go to both WDW and a Toronto park if there was one, and if WDW attendance wouldn't be affected too badly. I'm still not sure.

JMHO, but if Disney did build or re-theme a park here in Canada, I'd still be spending my the majority of my vacation money in WDW or elsewhere. It's not only the getting away from it all, but I already have so much to do here in the summer that it is the winter destinations that count for me. :animwink:

"Rick is taking a tour of several companies from his fictional 2010 vantage point. "

The line immediately following the end of the article.

Yeah, that's not a legitimate news article, he's writing as if he went to 2010, that's what he saw, and now he's writing about it. I don't think a Wall-E online community will be formed and I don't think they're going to build a fifth gate. It's just a nice, fun work of fiction.

I think its a load of rubbish. This isn't a good time for Disney to start putting lots of $ into a big new project. Orlando Sentinel recently reported about how they may not be doing too well, also Disneyland Tokyo isn't doing that brilliantly either.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/custom/tourism/orl-disney3008jan30,0,2834437.story

Did you read the same article that I did?

All it says is that some market watchers are worried that Disney will not do that well in the economic crunch that is happening, and Disney replied back that they are doing a little better than they were last year.

The Sentinel also stated that all the fears of the slow down in 2007 never happened.

Overall, the article is not about how they "may not be doing too well," but how they are doing better than what analysts say.

Did anyone see this at the bottom of the article?

"Rick is taking a tour of several companies from his fictional 2010 vantage point."

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't this mean he is making this stuff up?

well i read the article twice. it does make alot of sense. disney has stated it wanted to become more local in different places. they see how the indoor waterpark have taken off in the north. there seem to more and more citys getting them. if you look in ohio there is three main area that have indoor waterparks hotel now. plus in the first article about the stock prices they mention the great wolf lodge. so i wouldn't put that part by them.
the other thing to remember is that universal is building there new harry potter stuff and i wouldn't put it past disney to try upthem but doing something to up stage universal again as they did when disney studio first open up. there alot of people who are big harry potter fans. if it is hit there then disney will need to bring people into that kind of a park and that would be a villian since that is what harry potter is almost all about.
third the wall e is going to be big hit with the kids. they love all computer stuff now a days. i know my kids can't wait to see that movie. they love the movie trailer already.

I could see a disneyquest/character meal restaurant type establishment but honestly, I live in Toronto and Cedar Fair is near Buffalo. We have Paramount Canada's wonderland, which is fun, but i think it has troubles not being a year round event.

Snow in Paris is one thing, Today it was close to -20!!!

A villain's gate in florida? maybe, but I think you will see the 4 existing gates being built up over the next decade.

I could see the backlot area being made into a villian themed land similair in scope and scale to what Pixar Place is going to be.
