Disney haters bring you down?

My cousin... she is not a Disney person. Which is odd, because we grew up watching the same movies, playing the same games. We played "The Lion King" or "Beauty and the Beast" instead of "house" like normal kids. She got the chance to go to WDW years before I did, and she spent most of the trip in her hotel room, missing out on all of the parks except a half day at MK. And now, every time I go to WDW or do something Disney-related, she is the first to pour on the down sauce.

I just posed a picture of my new hidden Mickey tattoo on FB and my friends, Disney lovers and those who are impartial alike, made comments about thinking it was cute or right up my alley. Meanwhile, my cousin posts "okay..."

Do any of you know people like this? People whose goal in life is to be negative about all Disney things that make you smile? :(

There will always be people who try to bring you down, no matter what the subject is. Maybe your cousin really doesn't get it or maybe she's jealous because you've done more and seen more when it comes to WDW even though she was the first to go. Who knows. Keep sprinkling your magic, those who get it will love and appreciate it and if your cousin never does, that's a real shame because she's missing out on so much and all of us here know that for a fact!

I know plenty.

In fact, Disney is a bit frowned upon in my circles. A silly, commercial, a-cultural waste of time. And that's the friendly opinion.
I know two people who went to Orlando and prided themselves on not having set foot in any theme park! They just went to see Celebration to condemn the complicity of architecture in the artificiality of 21st century America. Or some such.

Oh well. Me I am a Disney nut. After many years of being quiet about it, I am now outspoken about it. Disney was a genius, the MK is the greatest gesamtkunstwerk of the twentieth century, EPCOT is out of this world. I share my love with the people who love it too, or with people who love me and simply nod politely when I go on yet another hour-long teary-eyed talk about the beauty of the farm scene in Living with the Land.

I am trying SOOOO hard to not become a Disney hater! I'm trying to keep my first trip in my thoughts more then this one we just got back from! This one, we had my mother and father in law with us and my FIL was just DETERMINED to be a grump all day. He truly ruined it for me. I told Josh (husband) that I would be ok with NEVER going to WDW again - Thats how bad it was.

So now, Im planning our trip to DisneyLAND in 2014 and Im trying to take it slow and get back into the Disney spirit. Im so bummed at how this past trip went down. I was so excited about it and he seriously just screwed it up so badly for me :'(

If you find me being a Disney hater, smack me! HAHAHA

Wow, that sucks. Sorry to hear that.

I too had a day trip ruined by a complete sourpuss of a girl once. They can do that, they can suck all the life and fun out of an entire group of people. Wow.

Disney is best enjoyed with a small group of likeminded people. With the fun folk.

I must come across a Disney hater atleast once a day and it doesn't bring me down at all. I have had past experiences like @Britt where either a family member or friend decided to join us and were miserable. I had enough and basically told them (on three different trips, mind you) I don't want to hear it, to hang at the pool, go off site, do whatever the hell made them happy, but I didn't want to hear it. The best advice I can give is, (a) NEVER bring a Disney Downer on vacation with you, (b) remind them, they aren't paying for your vacation, (c) you're a big girl and this is YOUR choice and (d) if they don't like Disney that's OK, just kindly refrain from the negative comments. Go, enjoy, make memories and leave the haters in a cloud of pixie dust

It's nice to be amongst friends. :D The way you put it, I feel like I'm embracing some controversial religion! :p

That's terrible! I hope you enjoy Disneyland, but please, oh please, come back to the World at some point! :p Oh, and I'll remember that part about smacking you! ;)

I doubt it's just Disney she's down on...

Very true. She is just a generally judgmental person and extremely negative about many things.

People at work always tell me it's for kids. Mostly in jest now I admit.

They soon shut up when I rephrase it as going to Florida in x days...

Britt sounds like you should be a FIL hater not a WDW hater......;)
You gotta shake that off. You know what they say..."Haters gonna hate"

So on that subject:
That 'hater' type of behavior has to do with a type of person and not a place or thing.

I know plenty of people who have that "giant homoginized money grubbing company" view of WDW...and to a certain extent I can understand how 'outsiders' can view WDW that way...BUT, a good natured person isn't going to rain on your parade when they know you LOVE something.

I can't stand NASCAR!! I don't get it...BUT -- if I know a friend of mine or aquaintence even is waaaayyy into it, I'm not going to make them feel stupid or bad for liking it.

As a matter of fact more often than not when someone is passionate about something I 'don't get' I will admit to them I'm not crazy about it and ask them what they like so much about it and try to find out what is I'm missing!!!

The hate is about the person that's doing the hating - it is not about the thing the person is hating on.

Haha! You must live near me! ;) I think I'm the only person in North Carolina that doesn't spend weekends watching cars make left turns. But I couldn't agree more with what you said. It must be exhausting to stay so negative and grouchy.

Glad you mentioned this. I know a few "haters" in my neighborhood. Every time we say we're going to WDW they let out a collective "ugh." I wouldn't do that to them if they mentioned a place I didn't care for but I decided a while back to just let it go. I feel like THEY'RE the ones missing out.

Exactly my point. if someone else is all pumped about something...why deny them their joy??

I have learned in life that we are all fairly unique as individuals, and we as individuals will rarely match perfectly with others regarding issues of personality traits or personal interests. I have also learned that I must be content with my own life and my own personal interests. Consequently, the opinions of others regarding my interests never leave me discouraged or flustered.
Oh, and yes, I have run into a Negative Nellie or two.

This is almost an identical phrase I say to my wife (she tends to get worked up) about negative people spewing hate about things...I always say...
"Think about how exhausting it most be to be them...It's got to be 24 hour a day job to be that down on everything - that sh*t takes effort"

Just saw your from North Carolina. We were having lunch at Cookes of Dublin back in July and I met this really nice guy Jerry Harmon from NC. Told me he was a country & western singer.Anyway he gave me his web site and lo & behold,he is a country singer.I'd never heard of him but I contacted him and he got back to me.Have you heard of him? :)
