Disney Finally Squashes Illegal Kiddie Gambling

I guess this will end my dream of getting a built-to-scale Pizza Planet at DHS or anywhere else on Walt Disney World property.

This is sad. You really think the kids see it as gambling? No, they see it as fun.

It's a shame it's taken away because of overzealous adults. Just let the kids have fun. I used to love arcades and winning prizes. What exactly is the harm here?

Whether the kids see it as gambling or not, it is gambling. A claw machine, for example, is not a simple game of skill. Your odds of winning can be set by the operator. A typical "payout" is set to 1:12. Meaning, that if you played perfectly 12 times in a row, landing directly on a prize, 11 of those times, the claw would not use enough PSI to be capable of picking up the prize. Anyone who has played a claw machine a handful of times has seen this happen, you line it up perfectly and the claw just slips right over the prize, or picks it up slightly only to drop it moments after pickup. That makes it no different than video poker, or a slot machine. The owner sets how often it pays out.

I understand your frustration - but your statements are in the neighborhood of truth, but factually wrong. Claw machines set difficulty to control payouts - not set actual odds. Slot machines use probability and averages to ensure target levels of return over time - not pre-determine the output or when they payout.

The game doesn't say 'oh crap, 212th pull? time to give a jackpot'

Don't get hung up on the name. These places were not your simple 'rent computer by the hour' thing you'd expect from the name. They offered online gambling an pd other gaming things that were skirting the gambling definitions
Did they go after Libraries? They have free computer access in most cases.

Please read up on the situation.
I live in New York, the world leader of legislation. I have more to read than I can handle. My general points are that we are becoming paralyzed by laws, common sense and responsibility no longer apply and that companies just lay down and comply. As for the libraries, I was responding to your comment about computer usage and alleged misuse at internet cafes so I questioned if they went after them as well.:)

I searched this thread and did not find, but does this mean no more crappy carnival game rewards on the Boardwalk with the cheapo stuffed animal prizes?

I don't think anyone knows yet.

I am heading down Friday and will be staying at Boardwalk, so I can inquire then and report back.

Truly classic. Only Disney. Only Disney.

You also must love the O-Sentinel. Still afraid to tackle the fact that TWDC is actively involved in real adult gambling through its licensing of Marvel and Lucasfilm characters to slot machine companies

http://www.lasvegasweekly.com/as-we...-companies-igt-and-wms-are-collateral-damage/

"It seems that for the sake of ideological purity, Disney has decided to halt the use of Star Wars and Marvel characters or themes on slot machines by whatever legal method is available. The Mouse House now owns Marvel and Lucasfilm, so they can obviously do whatever they wish. Reportedly, this shift is already underway.

“Marvel discontinued plans to initiate or renew slot machine licensing arrangements as part of its integration with Disney,” a Marvel spokeswoman told the Times. “The handful of remaining license agreements have expiration dates within the next few years.”

I saw that and assume they've shut things down for the same legal reasons. Although maybe SeaWorld is just closing up shop one kiosk at a time? :) I'm kidding. I like SeaWorld.

Video poker slot machines etc... are designed so you lose..You get a teaser win then you keep going thinking you're going to win big... Pavlov's dogs anyone?

That is correct it's the level of difficulty that gets set. That said I've seen kids win 2 and 3 times in a row. So how can this be construed as gambling?

yea I think that's why they shut it down so Quickly they did good last year with the Holiday crowds but now since the Holidays are over it's not as much Business like before but I guess good things end for a Reason but hopefully whatever will replace it will be better in the Future as it is sad seeing it go it felt like a Real carnival atmosphere at night when I worked during Christmas eve and New Years alot of families would play just to win prizes and it made them smile when they got something to take home at the end of the day...

When the leader retreats, the soldiers follow.

A better move is to continue to stock the machines and make the claw have enough strength so every play is a winner. Continue to stock it with 50c plush and raise the price by a couple bucks.
