Disney Experiences Cast Members May Now Swear Onstage?

Tonight at the D23 Expo media event, WDI President Bruce Vaughn inaugurated this year's WDI Pavilion with a little speech on stage in front of assembled media and key influencers with prepared remarks. And he dropped a four letter cuss word, just to prove how cool and hip he is, and how cool and hip WDI now is under his leadership.

Think about this. If a Jungle Cruise Skipper dropped that same four letter cuss word in their spiel, or a frazzled CM dropped that four letter word while dealing with a customer yelling about them about a broken down ride, or a messed up cheeseburger order, or cancelled fireworks show due to winds at higher elevations, that hourly CM would be immediately fired for swearing in front of customers. I would imagine even a Dockers-clad manager would be fired under the same circumstances if they were caught swearing in front of customers "onstage" in the Parks.

But if you are a senior executive, apparently those rules no longer apply to you. Or worse, the rules have now changed and the hourly CM's, Crew Members and Imagineers who work in the Disney Experiences division reporting to Josh D'Amaro are now allowed to swear into microphones in onstage environments while delivering prepared remarks to paying customers.

A new era has dawned... 🤔

I love fake news.

It makes for great entertainment as long as its understood is for entertainment use only. ;)

Fighting , stealing can get one fired. Cursing? With the union representing the CM in the grievance process who knows what the union and company compromise with.
Do you have a copy of the "Rules to Work By"?

If cursing is explicitly or even implicitly expressed in the document, the ee will be placed in the progressive disciplinary system. If they are a general performance/disciplinary problem, they may well be terminated.

It all depends on what is written in the "Rules to Work By"

Execs can do whatever they want. If you're a regular cast member, you just cant go "what the ****" in a public setting. That goes for anywhere you work.
" Anywhere you work" is merely your opinion. I disagree. I've worked in places where staff have mouthed off in front of customers . Managers ended up writing them up and counselling them. I have seen airport staff in the big food court at airports mouth off in front of staff and guests. What happened to them , nothing from what we saw . They continued working in the onstage kitchen.

I doubt cursing is written in stone.

Come on, TP. This is a joke post, right? You’re bored waiting for real news so you thought you’d post something, anything!

Speaking as a “squeaky clean” Latter-day Saint (I’m even in a suit and tie in a church building right now) his choice of words didn’t bother me.

(I don’t really consider s*** a “swear” word. It’s crude farm talk, yeah, unprofessional. But it doesn’t take something holy and profane it through insincere use.)

In fact it made me think he was naturally speaking about something he is sincerely excited about. That’s more true and inoffensive than nauseatingly deceitful corp speak.

Hopefully that was just a slip of the tongue and not authorized, Disney standards have gone downhill over the years but intentionally allowing swearing would be a new low.

Probably not disciplinary worthy though, it’s not like he cussed out a guest, he let a swear slip, it happens to the best of us.
The standards that are noticeable are male cast that have long hair, open tattoos , bracelets, , two tone hair, long beards , etc.

1. My point was proven when you said they got written up for it

2. Just because you didnt see anything happen doesnt mean it didnt.

Thank you though. I now gracefully bow out.

I've worked in a very professional blue collar setting and cursing happens, even on calls with customers, no one gets written up or fired for it. So this "goes for anywhere you work" is not the case.

What I think you're talking about is more customer facing service jobs. In those situations yes it might lead to being written up. But in this context I doubt Bruce would get anything more than a talking to by Iger, executive status or not.
