Disney Dollar ?

Hi all! :wave:

Quick question about Disney Dollars and change. My DH and I won Disney Dollars back in 2005 while at Disney and redeemed them that same trip. At the time, I was told and experienced that no cash change was given for Disney Dollars. Rather, you had to get as close to or over the amount and pay the balance with cash b/c no change would be given. Is this still true? Do you get change back for Disney Dollars?

Last trip, we used Disney Dollars and we did get regular money change back.
Great question because before then, I didn't think they gave you change back either.
That was in January...I'm assuming they still do that.

Thanks so much for the info! I am so glad that they changed this policy b/c sure I can go over - that is never an issue! :ROFLOL: But then again - I just need my change! hee hee

Never heard that one before! The CM would get an earful from me if I wasn't getting change! Dig out the Disney quarters, dimes and nickels cuz I'm not going anywhere till I get change in one form or another. :lol:

I have used disney dollars many times. Never once have they had an issue giving me change.
Disney Dollars are geniune currency at Disney. Same as real US tender.
If that happened then the cast member was incorrect.

That is the weirdest thing b/c I had a $100 total - all in $20's and every time I used them, I was told cash could not be given back. Here's probably a dumb question but there are not different types of Disney Dollars are there? I did get these free - not purchased - b/c I sat through one of those seminar thingys.

I always got cash back from mine. I've actually asked for change back in Disney Dollars. I had $100 bill and the cashier was gonna have a hard time making change. I asked if she had any Disney Dollars and told her just give me that instead. I would spend it again in the Parks, just the same as the "real" money.

I don't understand not giving the change back. The Disney Dollars are considered the same as real money and as I've been told, if you lose it, its gone. The same as if it were real cash.

So is there any bonuses for using Disney Dollars. I.e. I dunno $10 extra Disney Dollars for every $100 bought (probably not)..or is it all just part of the fun atmosphere?

Sadly there aren't any discounts that you spoke of for the Disney Dollars. I would love it if there was. In this case the Disney Dollars are considered real cash in the Disney Resorts. They're sold dollar for dollar. There is technically no upsell price or tax on them.

As an update on whether Disney Dollars can receive change back. Yes each and every time you pay with Disney Dollars it is required that they give change back to you doing otherwise is theft. Disney Dollars a considered real money. You aren't usually given change in Disney Dollar but you should get change in U.S. Dollars every time.

If they didn't give you change back and you have a receipt you should probably report it. And if you can remember who it was that told you no change could be offered that would probably help.
