Disney Dining Plan

If all you do is compare the food you get to the dollars you spend then yes, it is worth it. However, when you start looking at it based on what you would normally order if you were paying cash, the savings tend to disappear. It is much like that 5 gallon bucket of mayo you get at Sam's. If you use it all you will save money. But, if you start using mayo on stuff you normally would not, or throw any of it away, you will not. The only way to know for sure is to calculate the price what you would normally order and compare it too the cost of the plan.

Master Yoda is pretty correct... although there are some exceptions...

Families with children (under 10) can save money with the dining plan if they are doing a few buffets and/or character meals.

The child's dining plan is relatively cheap and if you do a few of the expensive meals you will come out ahead. However if you're just eating at regular restaurants with a la carte menus the savings will not be as great, if any!

But let's be honest, what bad can come with 5 gallons of Mayo?

Richard has it right here as always...with all the menus available on this site and elsewhere, it is easy to calculate if the plan will be worthwhile for you.

I just had to calculate the numbers myself...then I got a dining pin so my calculations were for nothing.

Look at all the menus of the places you plan to eat. Ask yourself if you would normally order dessert at every meal (including counter service). We added up what we would spend w/the dining plan and then what we would order regardless of dining plan. We were leaning towards not getting it because we rarely get our own counter service meals...we usually split or get 1 drink/side to split at least.

But the couple we are going w/were leaning towards the dining plan because they both love desserts and plan to get them at every meal and they both eat a lot and often.

Like Master Yoda said...if you are going to use all the Mayo - worth it. Every family is different, you have to calculate what you'd normally order and what you'd be getting w/the dining plan to see if the savings is right for you!

They do have a quick service dining plan that is all counter service. maybe you should crunch the numbers on that one and see if it's beneficial for you. If you eat lots of counter service and desserts - seems it could be a good choice.

My family began using the dining plan several years back and found it to be excellent for out needs. The basic plan we were disappointed with and upgraded to the delux. This enabled us to order dishes we would normally pass up due to $$$. Now, we don't care about the $$$ on the menu and have tried dishes we would never have considered.
We find that vacations are times to relax and splurg when we want to. At home we would not even consider some restaurants or other places due to what we view as unjustified costs charged.
Counter service is nice - but a good sit-down meal at least once a day is a must. (for us.)
Have yet to figure out how a 12 year old counts as an adult at WDW....:xmas::xmas::xmas:

Last time my DH and I went we used the standard dining plan for the first time. We went to a few signture places and just used 2 ts credits..At the time we spent $47 a person a day and several days our dinner bill was easily $120 so it is definately worth it!!! We are doing the deluxe dining plan so we will see how that goes!!
