"Monorail Maroon was pitched at the Transportation cast meeting as a tribute to Austin, the fallen Man in Maroon. Everyone loves the idea, and while no official announcement has been made yet, I think there is a very good chance it will happen... "

This would be a great tribute to Austin. If they do use Maroon, I hope they make and acknowledgement to Austin somehow.

like a maroon strip, on the doors have it say something like...

"In memory of Ausitn W."

This way, Austin will still think about him and it will make thoughts for him go to heaven every time someone sees his name...kind of like "Mommy, who is Austin?"

Disney has my full support if they choose to go forward with this tribute! It won't bring him back but its a step in the right direction and who knows, his family may think its special too and ride it in tribute!

As much as I know this comment wont be very popular, I think it would be bad show to do this. There are memorials to cast members who have passed in many places across property, but off the top of my head I can't think of any that are in guest areas with the exception being the Main Street Windows. I could be wrong though.

The transportation cast takes what happened very personally and for many it is very painful. Having guests constantly inquiring as to who Austin W is would only cause folks to relive in their head something they would rather not linger on about. It also takes away from the mission of Disney which is to take the guests away form reality and let them experience a fantasy world where happy endings aren't just dreams.

Actually, I agree with your comment very much. I think the subtle tribute to Austin by using the color is a good idea. Those who know will know and know not to ask. Those who don't know, will not be encouraged to ask.

It's a monorail color. 99.99% of the guests visiting WDW aren't going to know or care why the monrail is the color that it is. the other .01% will be people on these (or other) boards who know and appreciate the tribute. Let's not take this discussion any further than that.

The Walt Disney World Resort has given the green light to Transportation to between work on Monorail 12. In the July 5th crash, the cabs of Monorail Pink and Purple were completely destroyed but the passenger cars directly behind the cab only sustained minor damage. In building Monorail 11 (Monorail Teal) WDW used the cabs and the six passenger cars the farthest away from the point of impact. The six passenger car closest to the point of impact have been fixed and are sitting in the Monorail garage. WDW is building two brand new cabs and will use the six passenger cars to build Monorail 12 to be put into service during WDW fiscal 1st quarter. (Oct-Dec 2010).

This is 100% true.... this is also a big middle finger in the face of anyone that claimed that the rest of the passenger cars were not repairable..and those that knew better (me, and several others) are NOT idiots.. the only sections that are not being re-used are the impact areas.. and thats more out of 'respect' then a technical reason...

From my understanding, the new train (maroon is also the color I've heard) will be gracing the beamways sometime in september for it
s test and adjustment runs.. with a debut in October before the heavy holiday season... To give it 'run in' time before the end of year crowds..

Sorry for the rant, but it's nice ot be vindicated and validated after all these months.

The color is fine.... but no need for the lettering on the monorail. It will conjure up very Un-Disney images for guests... and instead of feeling happy about starting or ending their day at the parks.... it will be the opposite.

I think niteobsrvr was saying that the letters would be the thing that took Guests away from reality, not the color. That makes sense - you'll get a whole lot more people asking "Who is Austin?" if his name is emblazoned across the stripe.

I'm not a big college football fan, I was just playing off the Texas fan who didn't want it to be maroon because of Oklahoma.

Technically, Oklahoma (like Alabama) is crimson. The UT poster was probably referring to Texas A&M.

But as an LSU student, I can also agree that Monorail Crimson would be a terrible idea. :D
