Disney Cruise Line Prices

Castaway Cay was just amazing. The ship docks there, so you can get on and off as many times as you like--there is no charge for this.
Everywhere is within walking distance, though there is a free trolley ride to the Adult beach which is a bit further away
We did pay to hire bikes to ride around because we wanted to!!
The food and soft drinks are free. There are extra activities which you pay for if you want to do them. Towels are provided free of charge as are the beach chairs/hammocks and umbrellas. You can spend a fun day there and not need any $$.

I just want to make another point. My first cruise was on Royal Caribbean on the Voyager of the Seas. Right after, I thought, "I never want to go on any other cruise except Royal Caribbean." But the following year, we ended up sailing to Alaska on Princess, and then I thought, "I never want to go on any other cruise except Princess." Then the following year it was the same with Holland America, and so on and so on.

My point is that whichever you decide to do first, try not to get stuck in that being the only cruiseline you travel on.

Joe asked this, and now i'm asking...have you been on a Disney Cruise?

No. Sorry, I didn't see it asked before.

I find it very interesting that you haven't been on a Disney Cruise, yet you have continued to talk against the justifications of the higher costs of a Disney Cruise (very strongly in fact).

I have yet to go on a Disney Cruise (though I have one booked for May) and even without the firsthand experience that Tammy has I understand the effects of Supply and Demand in relation to many ships compared to just 4 of the Disney fleet and the perceived better value of the Disney Brand when it comes to cruises as well as the value of the increased amenites, ship design, stateroom layout etc and why this makes the additional cost of a Disney Cruise worthwhile.

And I do fully support the idea that if someone has never cruised that they would only want to cruise with Disney because they have witnessed firsthand the value and experience of the brand elsewhere. And from what I've heard, the experience of the Disney Brand is much better onboard the Disney Cruise Line than anything you receive today in one of the Domestic Theme Park locations.

And this is coming from someone who worked for Holland America for 5 years, another cruiseline that charges a premium because of its reputation of superior service and experience.

I don't actually think I did that. I started off on this by saying that it is more expensive, no matter how you look at it. Even all the extra fees and such, it is simply more expensive in nearly every way you look at it.

Then I was just disagreeing with some of the justifications, such as free child care, or all meals included, because those things are true on other lines as well.

And when it came to other non-tangible justifications, I said something like, "that may very well be worth the cost."...or something like that.

My main reason for responding so much was because I saw a bias that was giving facts that weren't really true.

Telling the original poster that there will be extra hidden fees on another line and will add up to the same cost as disney just simply isn't true.

In all my cruise fare digging online with multiple cruise lines the most consistent thing I have found is there are no absolutes. To say Disney is **always** more expensive has not been what I've found in my searching. Especially when it comes to certain ships on other cruiselines, I've found prices higher than what I have booked with Disney for comparable accommodations. I think the term "hidden cost" is pretty silly, actually. Shop bookings all the way to the end and it's not hard to get thru the little upcharges on other cruise line websites to get the full cost for comparing. Some cruiselines websites don't add the insurance until the end of the process whereas Disney's site includes it from moment #1 then later gives the option to decline. There's nothing hidden about any of it. It's just a difference in the way the websites work.

I didn't say that, I said:

I never said, in any of my posts, that disney is ALWAYS more expensive. I stressed that in nearly every way and a large majority of the time, it is more expensive.

Sure, if you compare a disney cruise to the first season of the Oasis of the Seas, or to something like Windstar or Radisson or some other line like that. And a few other cases here and there, but for MOST of the time (notice I didn't say ALWAYS), disney is more expensive, and by quite a bit.

Again, I'm not saying it isn't worth it, I'm not saying that it wouldnt' be great, I'm just simply saying that it's more expensive.

I think now this can be put to rest!

Yes, Disney can often be dearer but as has been pointed out numorous times there are many reasons for this!

To the OP I say in the end it will come down to what you can afford, if you can afford the DCL cruise you can be sure you will not be disappointed!
If you decide to book with another line chances are you still won't be disappointed, it all comes down to where you want to go and how much you are willing to spend on it!

Either way enjoy

And if you do book with DCL then I can't wait to hear about your experience onboard!!
