Is early 2012 February as has been stated? Im just wondering what Disneys idea of "early 2012" is.

And if Dumbo isn't opening the same time as Goofini and train station, how are they going to have access to this area? You take the train to and from Goofini? I guess they could reopen the Tomorrowland pathway as well. I just wonder if they will make a path so can walk from Goofini to Fantasyland?

This is interesting news since it contridicts what was said by one of the imagineers at D23 who indicated that Dumbo would open in early 2012. I am really surprised that they are going to have no Dumbo in operation for that long a time period.

So, are they saying there will be no Dumbo until the Double Dumbo is ready for operation!?!

That's how I am reading the news. Existing Dumbo will close "early 2012", new ones will open "later in 2012", so we could be looking at 6 months or more without a Dumbo in operation.

Well, excpet for the Astro-Jets (high Dumbo), the carpets (high-capacity Dumbo), and Triceratops Spin (dino-Dumbo).

I got the idea from Stitch Kingdom article that the new Dumbo - the one you would board from the "left" side - would open with the Barnstormer and the Train Station early in 2012. Then later in the spring of 2012 the second Dumbo - the one that would go the other way - would be installed. Maybe I read it wrong.

"Look! Dumbo is going the wrong way!
Actually, Dumbo is just reversing decades of flying in counter-clockwise circles. Call it “unwinding,” if you will. And in a new location within Magic Kingdom.

Guests will board Dumbo the Flying Elephant from the lovable critter’s left side — like mounting a horse … and unlike the way guests hop aboard for a whirl at Disney parks on three continents. It is scheduled to begin happening in early 2012 when select experiences in the Storybook Circus neighborhood of New Fantasyland debut just northeast of Mad Tea Party.

Also early 2012, the existing Dumbo attraction near Prince Charming Regal Carrousel will close, be refurbished and be moved to a location in Storybook Circus next to the new Dumbo attraction. The result when completed later in 2012: double Dumbos, one going this-a-way, one going that-a-way … a real circus act, if you will.

There also will be a “big top” that serves as a queue area for the popular attraction. It will feature a variety of interactive experiences currently being developed.

Two other Storybook Circus elements planned for opening early in the year are The Barnstormer and Fantasyland Station. Guests who enjoyed The Barnstormer at Goofy’s Wiseacre Farm will be happy to know the junior coaster thrills of that attraction are back with a thematic change: Goofy has sold the farm and is now a circus stunt pilot and magician, The Great Goofini. The completely re-imagined train station will serve as the gateway to Storybook Circus and all Fantasyland points beyond."

This. I just saw their article and that makes more sense.

The Stitch Kingdom article definitly sounds more like what we were expecting, that there would always be at least one Dumbo open. That is not as clear in the article posted here.

My guess is Dumbo will be closed during the time it closes in its existing location until it can be installed with the other new construction in the new home. But that's just a guess.

This is awesome news, as I plan to return to WDW next summer...(yep, right after visiting in December. Life can be great sometimes...)

I don't care which one of them is open, but I really hope one of them is when we go in March 2012... All I ever hear out of my youngest when we watch our planning DVD is "Momma, you ride Dumbo wif me when we go to Disney Weeld!" LOL

I can't imagine they wouldn't have at least one of them open at all times. It only makes sense to open the new one while the older one is being refurbished. The only time I could see them going down completely would be when they install the second one. And even then, I would think most of the work would happen at night.
