just a rumor and nothing more... lots of those floating around.. (Disneyland Ohio, Disneyland Texas, Disneyland in EVERY STATE AND COUNTRY AND POLITICAL BOUNDARY ON EARTH!)...

They already have a major resort on the east coast, an ad department that specifically targets the NY/NJ area, and a ton of office and theatrical presence there. I say spend the $60 on Jetblue and go to WDW... it's cheaper than NYC cab fare, that's for sure

This is not and rumor and is indeed true. It has been confirmed by Fox 5 in NY. I did post something on this 3 months ago and no one believed me. Tonight Sunday, July 21, 2002 Fox 5 aired a segment about how Disneys been looking to buy property over at Coney Island for a theme park.

if some of you could look thru land sale transfers which are a matter of public record you could find out if they have been buying land or not, They may of nor purchased under the disney name , they usuallu use a nymber of hilding company names to keep the rumore from spreading till they want it knowen if this is really going on

There is nothing unsafe about riding is a taxi. Coney Island is a very nice and safe place. It just needs a good paint job and a scrubbing. The Cyclones are GREAT! As I said before, this is not a rumor, it is true. Disney officials actually have been in Coney Island recently.

I'm going to guess that Disney is buying parcels on the boardwalk for an ESPNZone, something they announced a few years back.

Disney has been a key factor in rejuvenating areas like Times Square and The "downtown" Hollywood area.

Coney Island has a fascinating history. I wouldn't count on a theme park. But, if Disney could breathe life into this tired old landmark, I see it as a blessing.

Yeah, and they've had so much experience with carnival rides lately that I'm sure they'll do a good job. It's a perfect project for today's Imagineers!!!

I have hear Disney is building a carnival type park not really Disneyesque but with a 1950 flair kinda like Coney Island in its heyday, they really helped to turn Times Square around with the opening of one DisneyStore, imagine what they could do in that area if they put a theme park in your talking about alot of jobs and if they built any type of hotel there that would breathe alot of life into the stammering NYC economy.:animwink:

Yes, It would be for NYC economy and very good for the Brooklyn economy. NYC been trying to clean up that area, and they opened a minor league baseball stadium 2 years ago. They are still looking for more ways. Its getting better and if Disney comes it will be even better.

Interesting

Interesting, since Coney Island was the old-school model of an "amusement" (not "theme") park that Walt specifically countered when he proposed to build Disneyland. He is on record saying that he had been to an amusement park with his daughter and saw parents bored with kiddie rides and thrill rides, so he felt there was a need for a park that families could visit together. This was his explanation of the birth of Disneyland, and it was specifically parks like Coney Island and its West-Coast relatives (beach amusement parks) that he was talking about. Coney Island had defined amusement parks to a whole generation before Walt Disney changed the whole concept!

So, I think this is a cool irony!

Some things come full circle!

ok.. let me inject a different point of view into this thread...

remember all... that Disney is a company, and not just theme parks. Every time that Disney buys land somewhere, the first assumption is theme parks... if every parcel of land that Disney buys is for theme parks, then where would they have their support facilities, offices, warehouses, etc. Those take up more land than the parks do. In other words, think before you make such quick judgement.
