Hi all. I'm considering joining the Disney College Program thats been advertised at my school. Has anyone done this program or have any information on it?

Did it 9 years ago. My memories are pretty fuzzy at this point, but I've never regretted it. If you have the opportunity, you should go for it.

I could try to answer any specific questions you have, but I think we have younger people on here who have done it more recently who would probably be more up-to-date on how the CP works now.

One of the questions I had was about Fall session. In it, it says that the program runs into early January. Do you get Christmas off if you ask for it? I'd love to do the program, but I'd like to get back to Ohio for Christmas.

It is possible, but you shouldn't bank on it. I got Thanksgiving off during my program to go home, but not Christmas. (I only asked for one of the two.)

Generally holidays will be staffed with the least senior employees, so it's harder (though not impossible) for a CP to get them off. You'd want to put in for it as early as possible.

If you want to work for Disney some day or are simply looking for an opportunity of a life-time during your college career, do the Disney College Program! There are a ton of resources and information all over the internet on the Disney sites for it and even on youtube where you can find a bunch of testimonials and vlogs.

I'd caution on this piece of advice. I had a friend who interned with Disney and the statistics for full-time placement are pretty harsh. I think only something like 10% of college program participants and interns get full-time offers. I was in a group of about 40 who recently interviewed for full-time finance positions, and of the 10 (or so) of us they hired, I don't know that any of us had done the college program.

I'm really just looking for something different. I'm looking for work, perhaps take some classes and meet people. Right now in my personal and career development, I think I need a change of scenery.

Does anyone have any personal tips for the interview process? I really really would love to do this and I want to do well enough on the interviews that I get accepted into the program.

First off I'd recommend you apply ASAP if you do plan on applying for Fall '11. The application is currently live at wdwcollegeprogram.com and spots have filled quicker each of the last few seasons. As for interviews, there are technically two: the first is an online interview that is kinda like a standardized test, checking things like personality and moral more or less. The second interview is the phone interview and depending on the roles you choose change some of the questions they will ask. Check out this site for a bunch of discussion about the CP too...More CP Discussions

Cool. Thank you. I'm trying to apply for the Spring session. It's all very new to me and I'd love to get into the program.

Just go to the presentation - it will tell you all you need to know.

I plan on applying for the Spring of 2012 this fall, and I noticed that you worked for guest relations. I know that with my first time out, I can't do that, but is there a certain job that will help me get my foot in the door with guest relations?

Thanks

No particular role will "better" prepare you for it; networking will. Once you're assigned a location, find out managers' names in the G.R. of your park and they will be happy to schedule 1 on 1's with you.
