Celebration is a regular town. It isn't just a few houses. It is a planned community taken a few levels up. Think of a very upper middle class town or even a low end high class town. Very expensive, but nice. There is a really good book written by a guy who lived in Celebration for a year. I can't think of the name now but I will let you know if I do. It gives a lot of insight in to the town.

There was a thread not too long ago about housing in the orladno area. There was a link in there to the Celebration real estate site I think. They do have apartments, but I am not sure of the guidlines for occupying them. If I remember, they run abot $800 a month.

Celebration isn't just a small town. It's one of many experiments around the country in "new urbanism." Basically they are trying to reintroduce all the good community stuff we lost out on with all the suburban sprawl around the country. They try to draw people into community spaces, provide local health and educational facilities, and make the area much more pedestrain friendly. Also, the mere presence of a "downtown" shopping district is an improvement over your average housing development. No strip malls here! The key here is a cohesive plan which brings all the elements of a successful community under a single developer, rather than having many independent development projects clashing together.

In many senses, Celebration is what Walt intended EPCOT to be.

Celebration is such a beautiful town. Not only does it have it's on school but a movie theatre, grocery shop etc. The place is very expensive and the land is never yours. Basicly you rent a house for the same amount u would be able to buy a house. When I Ceelebration, I felt as if i were in a movie set. The homes are incredible. Beautiful place to live but very very costly!:hammer:

Absolutly correct!!! If I may add this, the hospital, shopping, living, and exercise facilities are all designed to be the best with the best staff's all self contained unto each other.Like back in the day when you could sleep with your front door unlocked.:D

Hi everyone....I have been reading the forums for a while now, but this is my first reply to a post.:sohappy:

Anyway, I was looking into Celebration a few months ago and it looks like a great place to live (although I have never been there in person). I didn't know that you never actually own the property or house that you live in. How does that work, are you really just renting a house that you will never own?
My understanding was that it was just like purchasing a home anywhere else. I would appreciate any information on this.

Thank you!! :animwink:

Found the book!

Ok I found the book. It is about a guy who lived in Celebration for a year so that he could experience what it was and what Disney intended for their "perfect" community.

Also, if I remember right you own your house. I don't think you rent it. I am pretty sure that you can buy your own home. There are several rules about how you must maintain it and what you can do with it and whatnot. You own the home, but alot of the homeowner decisions are taken out of your hands!

Anyway, here is the title of the book:

"The Celebration Chronicles: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Property Value In Disney's New Town"

By Andrew Ross

Published by Ballantine Books.

If anyone wants any other info on the book, let me know!
