we're heading out to wdw in a week or so and are staying onsite...i can't recall the last time i went to wdw without going to dtd but in its current state i can't conceive a reason to go (maybe for a meal at fulton's)...

so, whilst trying to think of night entertainment i remembered boardwalk (which we haven't been to in years)...what's on offer there? what type of entertainment do they have? is it a good substitute for/improvement on going to dtd? would you recommend it?

thanks for the advice and merry christmas :xmas:

In my opinion, DTD is a waste of time. I only go for World of Disney and sometimes for a lunch or dinner at Rainforrest Cafe.

The Boardwalk is absolutely beautiful!! They have entertainment, games, food and it is very nice. The only problem is transportation if you do not have a car. You will still have to transfer through DTD to get back to your resort.

Big River Grille & Brewing Works - Micro Brew Pub and Restaurant (BWR)

ESPN Zone - Sports bar with lots of games on mutiple TV's to indulge any enthusiast (BWR)

Fantasia Gardens - Mini Golfing (Swan/Dolphin)

The Boardwalk after dark is my favorite part of Disney World!
Where else can you find 5 top notch resorts and 15 restaurants and bars within walking distance of each other?
And all the time, those boats are moving back and forth between the resorts and parks............. AWESOME!!

It's mellow, but full of action at the same time!!!
(but you've got to be there at night to get the full effect)

good stuff! do you have to go to dtd to get to the boardwalk or can you get a boat/bus directly from some resorts? we're gonna be staying at wl and although we'll have a car we don't want to have to drive if it can be avoided...

You could take a bus from WL to DHS and take the boat to BW. Driving is probably the easiest route though.

If you have a parkhopper, which I assume you do, go to Epcot, and then proceed to the World Showcase (to the right) after England don't go over the bridge, stay to the right and exit out of Epcot. You can walk to Boardwalk from there. Boardwalk to the left. Its a 6 to 7 minute walk. You can also get the boat but I think walking is quicker.

You forget! Disney doesn't care what we do!!! :lookaroun

I, in no shape or form, condone drinking and driving.

FYI,

The Orange County Sheriff's Office has been out a lot lately on property looking for speeders and those who had a lot of fun at Epcot. I was checking the book in records for work the other day at the County Jail and there were several DUI arrests made on property.

I'm all about beer at the parks, it's just fun that way (I used to teach Beer School at SeaWorld) but please don't be stupid!

Take the bus and do a transfer. If you go through Epcot, get a beer for the walk! The Brew Pub has a few decent brews, nothing like Orlando Brewing Downtown, but still, drinkable. They also have a full bar. The Dance Hall also lets you booze it up. ESPN also has a full bar as well.

Have fun.

Just to clarify, I used to work for the sheriff's office at home (now I teach high school), nor do I drink anyway. It was meant as a joke. Hence what I said at the bottom of my post.

I have a Boardwalk question or two as well....

We'll be there in late January. Do they have street performers on the boardwalk all year long or just during busy seasons?

Is there anything to see/do (besides restaurants/bars/etc.) during the day?

Can we just wander around and "explore" the hotels and stuff in that area?

There are many things to do outside of the lounges and restaurants here is another list:

Bayside Marina - Bicycle & boat rentals, Fishing excursions, sea raycers and other specialty cruises (DYC)

Boardwalk Bakery - Great coffee even better pastries (BWR)

Cabana Beach Hut - Swan paddle boats and other watercraft rentals (Dolphin)

Fantasia Gardens - Mini Golf (Dolphin/Swan)

Friendship Boats - Take a free ride around the lake and check out the sites

Galleria Sottil - Art Gallery (Dolphin)

Java Bar - Great little coffee shop (Swan)

Midway Games - Carnival games along the Boardwalk (BWR)

Seashore Sweets - Candy store and more or Sugar - Candy store with an edge (Dolphin)

Shopping - There are more than a dozen wonderful shops to indulge any spree

The "streetmosphere" is year round although weather does play a role in the performances (BWR)

Surrey Bike Rental - Bikes built for two or four

Wyland Gallery - Art Gallery (BWR)

The Yard Arcade - Arcade games and more (BWR)

*Any other questions I'm here hopfully with some answers

P.S. The Mouse wants you to wander around the resorts, that way they can entice you into staying with them on your next trip.

Think for yourselfer
Although not a substitute for what PI used to be, the Boardwalk is still lots of fun. Make sure to check out JellyRolls. It is an absolute blast. ESPN Club is the only place in Disney to catch any kind of big game, and since you will be there smack in the middle of Bowl Season, it is a great place to start a night out.

My fiance and I stayed at the Dolphin this trip. Heading over to Epcot, having a couple drinks, then going to the boardwalk for a nightcap turned into our bet memories of the trip.

My advice as far as transportation:

With Park Hopper; Head to the parks in the morning, then back to the hotel to get ready. Take the bus over to Epcot by 7ish, have a couple drinks as you wander around WS, then spend the night at the Boardwalk. Take a cab back to WL. The cost of the cab ride is about the equivalent of 2 drinks.

Without Park Hopper; Take the bus to DHS, then hop on the boat to the Boardwalk. It is a nice ride, and relatively short. Then again, take the cab home.

We are DVC Boardwalk members and have gone from Broadwalk to Wilderness to eat at Artists Point, the easiest way to get frm one to the other is the car, hands down. any other way takes a long time, car is 10 minutes.

No worries. I knew what you were saying. I just want to make sure people know you Officers and deputies are out on property looking for drunks as well. That's all.

Is there anything that KIDS can do after dark on the Boardwalk besides mini golf and ice cream? Are the carnival games still open then? What about the dueling pianos at Jellyrolls - are kids permitted to see that, or is it a regular bar?
