I am sorry to sound stupid but what is WWE? As to why Luxo waited 20 years to sue' Pixar was not as succesful in the late 80s.

Formely World Wrestling Fereration that operated under that name for over 20 years. In the early 2000's the World Wild Life Fund suited the WWF because they wanted those intials for there website WWF was forced to change there name to World Wtestling Entertainment or WWE.

I can guarantee that the Disney Luxo lamp would not be the same quality of the Luxo produced lamp line. This would dilute the Luxo corporate name.

Disney had an agreement to use the Luxo name and likeness. Not an agreement to produce, package and/or distribute Luxo merchandise.

I dunno, an MSRP of $200 for the Blu-Ray and lamp (although selling most everywhere for around $125) says to me the lamp is going to be good quality.

Well thats not entirely true. The World Wild Life Fund made a deal with WWWF in the 80`s when Vince Mcmahon was out buying up all the wrestling territories. Vince wanted to shorten the name to WWF, but it was already taken. So a deal was made. Like many people the World Wild Life Fund was sickened by the attitude era in WWF and sued them thinking people would think they were associated with one another. So WWE was born.
On the subject of WWE, they have always had to license the name Hulk (as in Hulk Hogan) from Marvel Comics. I guess now they will be associated with Disney in that regard if they ever make another Hulk DVD.

Dude, not cool. Why use logic when you can blindly defend Disney and claim that any opposition is somehow inappropriate or of poor character.

In all seriousness, he's exactly right. It's ironic how litigious Disney is towards individuals and organizations it believes is violating contractual obligations or intellectual property laws at a supposed harm to Disney, yet Disney itself plays very fast and loose with the law.

And you are exactly right. Disney has done more to legally protect its intellectual property than any company anywhere. They even sued a daycare that had pictures of Disney characters on its walls. It boggles the mind that they would not anticipate this.

Luxo seems to have a pretty solid case here. Disney could be in trouble.

My guess is that they will settle out of court for a non-disclosed sum of money and a cease and desist order for manufacturing Luxo lamps.

-or-

Disney will pay Luxo an undisclosed sum of money for the rights to distribute knockoffs of this one lamp line of Luxo's.

So wait, this isn't about Pixar's use of the Luxo name in their cartoon, this is purely about creating actual Luxo merchandise and animatronic figures, right?

Luxo Jr. was created when Pixar was a much, much, much smaller company than it is today, years before any relationship with Disney. The character was created by John Lasseter when he was learning how to model in 3D, and he pretty much animated the entire short himself. Luxo has been a recognizable mascot for Pixar for years now, but only recently has the character really been pushed to a new level in its use in merchandise and Theme Park imagery.

Exactly, which Disney apparently is'nt allowed to do. Lasseter created the charachter based off a Luxo design that had been in use for at least 50 years prior to his animated short.
