Sorry to bring up such a thread again, but Saturday in DTD, I found a pin that apparently says something about the aftermath:

Gotta love a bit of thread deviation...

All violence bears a serious threat of escalation.

Hehehe. Bears.

Seriously though, Disney should have known better than to try and sell these lamps. No federal judge is going to interpret the original Pixar agreement as a license for Disney to have competing lamps produced in China.

And it was only WWE's stupidity that got them in trouble with the name change. They knew full that the 1994 agreement with the WWF barred them from merchandising products with their revised 1998 logo overseas but they did anyway, possibly thinking that their lawyers could fight their way out of the violation. If Vince's lawyers had actually consulted with the Foundation rather than acting with Hubris there never would have been any problem.

Interestingly enough, WWE could still be using their old logo for products and entertainment that are only sold or aired in the United States, but obviously wouldn't want to given the cost and difficulty of having to make two different products for their foreign and domestic lines.

The only thing I find ridiculous is that they say it will damage their product. I see them selling more lamps because of this!

I have a hard time seeing how Disney's providing a cheaper alternative to Luxo's actual product is going to boost their sales.

The two most likely effects will be:

A) People who have seen the Luxo cartoons and wanted a lamp that looks like the one in the cartoon will buy the package, use the lamp, and be satisifed.

or

B) People will buy the lamp, be dissapointed in its quality or functionality and not like it.

What you're suggesting is that somone is going to buy a Disney fakeLuxo, like it, and like it so much that they're willing to turn around and pay another $200 for a second lamp that looks just like the one they've already bought but may be marginally better constructed.
