Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

No one mentioned that topic in this thread a day or two ago. We'd remember that. You must be thinking of something else.

The oldest media reporting on this I can find came from 18 hours ago in The Hollywood Reporter. Then Variety and People picked up the story 17 hours ago. It hit the major media in the past 2 to 4 hours, on Fox News, USA Today, Newsweek, etc.

So yes, it's a new story and is now popping up on the front page of major news websites in the past 6 hours or less.

Someone posted the original THR article in the thread, if the article came out yesterday then it was yesterday. I remember it, which is why I knew about it already. And so yeah it was probably deleted by the MODs, along with all the other Gaza War comments over the last couple days which delves into politics.

So its not new, it didn't happen in the last 12 hours, sorry to break it to you. And so the comment of the poster that its getting "worse" is not true, because its in the same spot it was yesterday. And this story isn't going to move the needle.

She literally thanked people for watching the Snow White trailer, and then added free Palestine, they were intrinsically linked.

And intrinsically insufferable.

The big news today about Jonah Platt defending his dad on Instagram, and with excellent reasoning and very valid points about the damage Miss Zegler caused to his dad's product and all the thousands of people working on it for salaries far less than what Miss Zegler makes, is another sandbag tied around her young career.

No no the other other comments.
This made me chuckle, not because it’s a bad comment but because there’s been so many controversies it’s actually a very fair statement. It’s hard to keep track of what was said when, when it became controversial, and how each comment may or may not have affected the movie.

I bet Disney can’t wait for this movie to be in the rear view mirror and to move the focus to Stitch and other upcoming movies.

In other news SW had a horrible Monday at $2.5 million but actually had a decent Tuesday at $4 million, should break $100 million worldwide today or tomorrow.

I saw that! I think it helps that most US schools have this week or next week off for Spring Break. Easter is very late this year, but the elementary schools are out for vacation this week.

That won't save it at this point, but it's helping a bit. At least this week.

I’m far more intrigued by the box office then the movie at this point, it’ll be curious to see if it finds an audience, plunges off a cliff, sputters along picking up a couple million here and there… it’s like a game where the first half was horrible and the team looks cooked but you have to watch to see how it ends, they could surprise you.

I went back to Google to learn more about Mr. Platt...

Jonah Platt is 38 years old, and is involved in Hollywood in his own career. From the Newsweek article this morning...

"Jonah Platt's work spans theater, television and film. Most notably, he starred as Fiyero on Broadway's Wicked and played Tip Tribby on Being the Ricardos. He also appeared in: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Parenthood, The Office and did voice-over work on Trolls: The Beat Goes On! and 2024's Rugrats."

So this is a guy who is not just defending his father for having to reprimand a young starlet, but he's speaking from a solid base of personal experience in Hollywood and an understanding of how an employee of a film studio should behave.

18 hours ago would have been 4:00pm Disneyland Time yesterday late afternoon, and this thread was active yesterday at that time. @Trauma posted at 4:00pm yesterday at post #16,726. Then the thread continued with a few hours of conversation into the evening, which I remember reading as it progressed.

There was no mention of anyone named Jonah Platt yesterday evening, or any link to The Hollywood Reporter story about Miss Zegler. Because if there had been, we would have discussed it.

And so yeah it was probably deleted by the MODs, along with all the other Gaza War comments over the last couple days which delves into politics.

I'm afraid you are thinking of something else, or perhaps a different discussion forum. The Jonah Platt story is new to this dicsussion as of late this morning. Major news outlets are only posting about it now in the past few hours. So we're going to discuss this new information and link to the various articles today.

I can't see why that discussion or links to reputable news outlets would be instantly deleted by a moderator. It's valid discussion about why the box office for Snow White tanked so badly.

What about Kenny Baker (played R2-D2), Warwick Davis (Willow), Felix Silla (Twiki), David Rappaport and Jack Purvis?

I only have a recollection of R2-D2 and Tweekie, but don't remember the actor's names inside the suits.

Twiki, or Tweekie? It' wasn't Twinkie, that's a snack cake. How did they spell that little guy's name in the 23rd century? 🤔

The original THR was posted at 2:42PM yesterday, so would have been 20 hours ago.

And someone posted it yesterday in the forum around that time. If it didn't get discussion yesterday so what. That doesn't make the story any newer, its still almost 24 hours old.

I'm not thinking of something else. I've seen the original article because it was posted here, that is why I know about it.

Also NO WHERE did I say don't discuss it, go ahead discuss away. All I was saying is this isn't a new story just because some of you haven't seen it until now. So my point is there is not some new thing that is going to cause the movie to "bomb" even worse. Its in the exact same spot in terms of "bombing" as it was yesterday. This is not going to move the needle.

Can we split the difference and call it 3:39pm yesterday? I think that would be fair. Pacific time, of course, for continuity.

Platt’s behaving despicably here, of course. He’s frantically attempting to pull attention away from his father’s failings by airing dirty laundry and drawing a target on an actress who has undergone four years of intense and often venomous attacks - and, as other posters have pointed out, he’s significantly older and more experienced than the person he’s trying to throw under the bus. His comments are very arguably worse than Zegler.

I’ll also remind folks that Zegler’s comments were not fringe beliefs or support for terrorism. Agree or disagree, they were completely within the mainstream of contemporary discourse. In fact, many Disney employed celebrities made similar statements that passed largely without notice. Zegler’s comments exploded because she was already the object of a hate campaign.

Nope, because I get it right from the source, the original article. So I don't have to guess like you do.

Just so I can note it down in my pad, is there any attempt at humor you can identify via written text?

So this Jonah Platt Instagram spat is news to you too this morning, huh?

My God, those people all deserve each other! What a bizarrely miserable group of people they seem to be.

That's Hollywood, baby! 🤪
My favorite tweet is the first one that says it won’t hurt blue collar workers because they’ve already been paid, while completely ignoring the fact they need another job with another movie if they’re going to keep getting paid.

Whether Snow White makes $200 million or loses $200 million will affect hundreds (maybe thousands) of jobs in the movie industry, to ignore that is either ignorance or intentional misrepresentation.

I know like 99% of what you post is an attempt at humor, even if I or others don't find it humorous. Still doesn't mean I won't respond to it just because you attempt to be humorous. Because if people didn't post/respond this would be a very boring not active forum.
