You have a faulty memory

So I read the article…. And I missed the part where it mentioned everyone in the world care about The Phantom Mennace trailer

I am pretty sure I can recall my own memories… Anyone of my friends or family that were not Star Wars fans could care less

I know people say crowds lined up for Meet Joe Black to get their first glimpse of the new Star Wars trailerwell The Brad Pitt drama grossed 43 million and finished 45th for the year…. Not exactly blockbuster numbers

The point isn’t that everyone in the world cared, but the trailer’s arrival was a news story that underscored the movie’s event status which spanned demographics.

Compare that with Superman’s trailer that earned digital coverage for its X million number of views and yet didn’t get much attention apart from the trades and comic book movie sites. It may be the most popular trailer since whatever but it’s seemingly negligible compared to Phantom Menace in 1998.

Makes the dead internet theory feel more and more believable.

Everything is negligible compared to Star Wars (not to mention the first one in many years!)

As of today, Moana 2 has passed $960M WW, well ahead of the $950M WW projection that @TP2000 projected. So, by MLK Jr Weekend, it should hit $1B WW.

If it can hit that number, that should at least let Disney allow for more female-led movies to be made.

Do you remember 2016-2020? Many of the biggest female led movies of all time happened during those years, the Rey Star Wars movies, Frozen 2, Beauty and the Beast, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel… even the Black Panther came out during that time which is the biggest black led movie of all time, who the President is has pretty much zero influence on movies.

You are giving the office far more social influence than it really has.

Yeah, but those were moves released at a time when social media, even Twitter/X, wasn’t as toxic before Elmu took it over and made it a toxic sh—hole and at a time when comic book movies and Disney weren’t in such dire straits before a pandemic changed everything.

I think its best to stay away from this topic. Disney will make decisions that is best for their business based on the market, even if we don't agree with it. If that includes more of one time of film, such as sequels, that is what they will do.

Then I guess it’s gonna take a miracle for Pixar’s Elio to be a hit at the box office, because who knows if good/great reviews and word of mouth will be enough to save it.

Outside of Lilo & Stitch, Disney always does terrible with sci-fi animated movies
You forgot one other Disney sci-fi animated film that was successful: Pixar’s Wall-E.

Pixar’s Wall-E was a hit at the box office though with nearly triple its $175M budget and won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

So, if Elio manages to have a mix of the tones of Wall-E and Coco (with a little Turning Red mixed in there), it could be a hit.

Okay forgot Wall-e. Still doesn't mean Elio will join that twosome.

It might if it’s great and if Disney tries to market it more actively and with better trailers like the one I saw this past summer at D23.

As it’s always been, who’s in power politically has little to no influence on what movies a studio makes.

What the people want to see doesn’t change based on who’s in charge.

Maybe, but I think they’d have no idea how to market it today and am skeptical that critics and audiences would be adventurous enough to go with it.
We don’t know that.

Remember, it just needs to have strong talent on paper and in-front of & behind the camera.

If it works like that, it could still win.
