I think good movies can lift all movies….if you had a great time at the theater a person is more likely to go again
This is a great point, there was a time I’d go to Tuesday matinees 2-3 times a month, it was cheap and quiet and a great way to relax on my day off, during covid I (obviously) got out of that habit and now just watch everything at home (via streaming services and a huge 4K tv), I haven’t been back to a movie theater since 2020 because I don’t see the value in it anymore.

I’m guessing that probably applies to a ton of former movie goers, if one movie can convince people to give the theater another chance, and they enjoy it, it could have long term benefits for other movies.

Depends on your point of view I guess.

If you're having to leave to use the restroom because the movie is too long or risk having an accident, well then you didn't get your monies worth.
I guess that’s an issue for some people. I have never in 53 years left a theater to pee. (I also don’t guzzle soda.)

My husband goes once every time to refill the popcorn and soda. (I don’t know if he also uses the restroom.) He never seems to care what he misses.

I agree the old intermissions were not a bad idea.

Anecdotal stuff:

We are both just getting home, it’s a little late, but we are debating whether to go to the movies. My first choice would be wicked, my second choice would be gladiator, and it’s going to depend on what’s available at what time.

I happened to notice, looking at two local AMC Theatres, the wicked showings are all almost full except for the 3-D ones. The gladiator ones are mostly less than half full.

It’s looking like either 8:30 Wicked at the farther theater with heated seats (currently 2/3 full) or Gladiator at 9 at the closer theater without heated seats (currently 1/3 full.)

Or stay at home! It’s our first chilly night in Florida this year - going down to 65. 😉

I will leave all that up to Brian and let you know!

Same.
This makes me a little jealous, half the time I end up sitting cross legged waiting for a boring part so I can dash to the restroom, I’m also guilty of buying the soda that resembles a popcorn bucket though so it’s mostly self imposed.

Just saw a commercial on YouTube for a live action remake of How to train your dragon, I didn’t even know they were making this and it’s coming to theaters soon, Hollywood needs to figure out a better war of advertising now that TV doesn’t get the eyeballs it used to.

I think you offered the solution in your post: YouTube.
Guess it’s just surprising to me because I hadn’t heard a peep about a remake until that “coming soon” ad. I’m so used to talking about Disney movies before they even start shooting it’s shocking to me they can shoot, edit, and completely finish a movie without ever hearing about it.

I am like you….i never leave… I always feel I will miss something…. My wife is like your husband… she usually leaves once everytime… although her’s is a pee break

The worst was my first viewing of Avatar the Way of Water, which was more than 3 hours long. I didn't find the film boring, but I had to pee and the constant splish splashing of the water in the movie was NOT helping things!

Fortunately I was able to leave during a non crucial scene (and I know this because I ended up rewatching the movie in theaters a few times).

This is correct. Well done, all around.

I was very into it and emotional through the whole thing, but kind of fell off at the end. I guess that’s because, as we all know, it’s not the end. I don’t know what the plans are for part 2, but they should do it quickly (like Costner wanted to do with his western.)

I’ve only seen the theater version once, and my memory is not fantastic lately, but this seemed quite different.

It’s really amazing how they can take a terrible book and make it so good! Makes me wonder if they’ll dip into the terrible sequels in similar fashion.

This has every reason to be a big hit, and I think the beginning was smart to draw in people who love the original Wizard of Oz and maybe have never seen the play.

Last year, I loved Wonka. This year, I loved Wicked (not quite as much, though.) Next year, can I hope for Wicket? (The Ewok backstory!)😆

I was wrong. It’s going down to 52. That’s chilly for us! Digging out the space heater.

Part 2 was filmed at the same time. It comes out next year, this time.

I just saw Wicked. It was really quite good, a nice spectacle. All the leads fulfilled the roles exceptionally well and not just as knockoffs.

It was a little bit stretched, but extremely faithful. Which also again leads me to be super curious what on earth they are doing for Part 2. I’m feeling more optimistic about people wanting to see the second one in droves.

It is great to see the box office so healthy. All things considered this year should have ended or could have ended so much lower with a low release number than it was going to be pre longest strike in hollywood history.

Editorial side of things. Best Christmas Pageant ever is a simple straight forward delight and to scale a smash hit.

I adored how they really honoured the broadway show. So theatrical, so faithful, but lots of lovely fleshed out bits.
