The implication was that it was a film that opened with less, so the answer is yes, regardless of cost.Even if the film cost over $300 Million to make and market?

TWDC should take a couple of years off from making movies.A wake up call to what?
Of course, that Scorsese film is three and a half hours long and many people, myself included, don't want to sit through such an endless film. I've been trying to work it into my schedule for weeks, and haven't been able to do it. On the other hand, it's probably going to get a ton of Oscar and other nominations, for whatever that's worth.Yep, as I mentioned Scorsese had a film just last month that performed worse than The Marvels, opening at $23M, and will lose ~$200M for Paramount and Apple.
I saw it, its a great film and I expect it to win some awards.Of course, that Scorsese film is three and a half hours long and many people, myself included, don't want to sit through such an endless film. You’re right, a move that cost over $300 Million would kill to get any amount of ROI if starting $300 Million in the hole. The implication was that it was a film that opened with less, so the answer is yes, regardless of cost.
I ask primarily to highlight the bad faith and hidden agendas. If certain topics are banned, I’m not sure why absolutely constant, taunting allusions to them are permitted. It promotes a toxic environment.
Agreed, TWDC is not the only company making movies that lose money.Yep, as I mentioned Scorsese had a film just last month that performed worse than The Marvels, opening at $23M, and will lose ~$200M for Paramount and Apple.
You're gonna defend them despite all evidence, eh?Its not a lame excuse if its those same external forces that are the primary driver for what are causing those "flops". Posters constantly state they want Disney to tell original stories, just have a hit, stop putting out content that audiences aren't interested in. As the saying goes, its easy to say all that from the cheap seats.
Despite the fairy tale stories they tell they do not have a crystal ball that predicts the future.
For producing flop after flop, you don't think they should be embarrassed. If you were that bad at your job, would you be embarrassed? Some people should be embarrassed. I don’t think it’s the studio.
Some folks would say that some movies would kill to break the $70 Million mark at the box office by Sunday evening, 10 days after its debut.Weekend projections are out from Box Office Pro for this weekend. The Marvels is forecast to have more than a 60% drop this weekend. On the bright side, it should break the $70 Million mark at the box office by Sunday evening, 10 days after its debut.

Weekend Box Office Forecast: THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES, NEXT GOAL WINS, TROLLS BAND TOGETHER, and THANKSGIVING
Pre-Thanksgiving weekend will see the welcome release of four major studio films as the holiday corridor begins to ramp up with a variety of content.www.boxofficepro.com
Its not about defending them, its about understanding that forces outside their control are at play here. Sure there are some things they can do, and Disney just announced some. You're gonna defend them despite all evidence, eh?
Oh well, I guess they will make up for the box office losses in streaming and merch.
If they can no longer produce movies that turn a real profit in the current environment, given what you call forces outside of their control, they should probably no longer be in that particular business. Pick a new line of work. It is not one...it is not two...it is several now, one after another..so sad.Its not about defending them, its about understanding that forces outside their control are at play here. More sequels.....
They are going to play it safe and pull back on anything original for awhile. Yay! We get more of the same. Plus we know that the MCU is going to pull back. So Yay! Less MCU for awhile.
I would rather they try to adjust because I still enjoy most of Disney’s movies. People get frustrated when someone just says make better movies; I’m sure they would love better box office results. If they can no longer produce movies that turn a real profit in the current environment, given what you call forces outside of their control, they should probably no longer be in that particular business. They should try to produce a movie on a budget like they all movie companies did in the old days.If they can no longer produce movies that turn a real profit in the current environment, given what you call forces outside of their control, they should probably no longer be in that particular business. Same.I would rather they try to adjust
So you going to say the same thing to Paramount who has had almost as many flops this year? Or any other movie studio that has a bad year?If they can no longer produce movies that turn a real profit in the current environment, given what you call forces outside of their control, they should probably no longer be in that particular business. Others have been hitting more than Disney comparatively. They also seem to have a bit more control over their budgets, which helps. So you going to say the same thing to Paramount who has had almost as many flops this year? Or any other movie studio that has a bad year?
A little late on the adjustment...if there even is one...Or is it about adjusting to the current market trends and moving forward.
Its a larger trend in Hollywood, big budgets to chase the big box office. I go back to Scorsese, he spent basically blockbuster money for what amounts to almost a documentary and got no box office for it.They should try to produce a movie on a budget like they all movie companies did in the old days.
I think it’s a valid point to say they need to adjust, especially since so many of their audience (families with kids) find it easier to wait a short time until they can see a film without all the expense and hassle.Same.
