just playing by @TP2000 own rules since he apparently is our own box office guru

I'm humbled, but... the things I am a guru at is a rather short list, but "box office" is definitely not one of them. :)

Instead of me, we can thank The Numbers website for the info and data I post in this thread. They are the ones that compile and track the box office performance of every movie, big and small, released in the United States and the rest of the Free World. With an additional word of thanks to the Google search function for related topics of movie budgeting and financials.

If there is an interest in a movie, people will come out to see it. Case in point is Five Nights at Freddy's. It was released the same day to Peacock and theaters and still did better theatrically in it's opening weekend than almost every Disney movie this summer. The movie made more than Disney's Haunted Mansion in just a weekend. Why didn't all the Haunted Mansion fans show up?

No one wants to see what Disney is pushing. They've tainted their brands. They've killed the Muppets. They've killed Star Wars. They killed Indiana Jones. They are killing the MCU and with Wish they will be killing their animation division.

Universal seems to have some clue what they are doing with their IPs. Disney needs a huge C-change.

So I watched Five Nights at Freddy's last night on Peacock. I never played the game. The movie kinda dragged while they set up things up. ONLY 3 people murdered? I did not feel scared for any of the main characters maybe a little at the end.

My kid knows about the game said, "there are no murders, you just go through rooms" so in that aspect, its accurate?

The way it ended it looks like its set up for sequel and yes, I want to see it..... on streaming.

So , yes, this movie is cr@p and that and I think that was the expectation.

So Universal releases a cheap, cr@p movie and gets huge ROI.

Disney releases a beautiful, artistic, inclusive, expensive movie and loses 100 million.

I don't know. A lot of last summer's Disney movies weren't exactly beautiful.

I never want it… but hey some of us still Believe film is subjective… still less people seem to want it these days
Of course. What you or I or @Disney Irish likes is completely subjective. And it’s okay to like things that don’t do well. There’s plenty of individual films I love that didn’t do well. I’d have liked for some of them to have continued, but alas, that’s life.

However, financial performance is very objective, especially to those who authorize budgets.

If you like a type of product produced by a for-profit enterprise, you should root for those types of projects to do well financially, if you want to see more like them.

TWDC does NOT care about making money on their movies apparently.

You’re rewriting history. The attacks on Rey began immediately. The attacks on Rose were largely based on her ethnicity and perceived physical attractiveness. Yes, there were many who criticized the story or characterization in entirely legitimate ways, but that doesn’t negate the flood of sewage that poured forth.
Some did…that’s what the internet does…

If I recall…it was about them trying to kinda have her replace solo AND Skywalker in the same stroke…
Couple that with forced attachment that abrams insisted on with creepy Carrie 😬

…now that I think about it - that movie is ALOT worse than I thought…but anyway

But back to the subject - most even diehard xer OT fans thought the movie was “good” on release and gave her latitude to see where it was going?

It went no where…which means the aforementioned fans - erasure and I being sympatico on this - realized they had completely botched it in 17-19 and then the devil had to be paid…
…and still does. Star Wars is going nowhere until they sweep the decks and that’s no guarantee it can be fixed

And that’s why the “counter” is disingenuous…

The same people defining Disney as “arthouse” now were lauding it’s raw, Wall Street machismo 5 years ago.
Yes…I spent time going back and looking. It’s “out there”

We can have an honest debate with different opinions if we don’t treat each other like fools…
…exception is if you lie and act like a fool.😐
