Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

The framing and phrasing on that Tweet does not make any sense, based on the box office data.

The Fantastic Four has had very weak legs since its second weekend in theaters, and it's legs got weaker every week since. With its $200 Million production budget, if it gets to $500 Million globally by Labor Day weekend, it will have lost at least $100 Million for Burbank.

If you assume it will do some profit sharing on Disney+ in the next several fiscal years and thus divide its $100 Million loss in 2025 in half, by fiscal year 2028 it will have "only" lost $50 Million.

This summer's mega-budget tentpole release from Marvel, The Fantastic Four, is not a tale of financial success and cultural relevancy. And believe me, I was hoping for a pop culture impetus for a New New Tomorrowland just as much as any other Disneyland fan. The Fantastic Four failed; moderately at the box office, and even more as a source of pop culture relevancy.

On a $200M budget the breakeven point would be $500M, if using the 2.5x formula that you agreed to start using. Which would mean there would be no loss to split with D+, so no need to calculate any further on that.

With it being at $468M right now, it only needs another $32M (between both domestic and international) before it leaves theaters to get to $500M. With it doing $25M (between both domestic and international) just this weekend alone, I don't see that as too much of a stretch to think it could happen in the next several weeks. Now it may not make much beyond that, but that is beside the point.

Also for what its worth, last I checked they were still doing the M&G in TL at DL, so who knows may still be in the cards for a land redo themed after the movie. ;)

I wouldn't hold your breath, I'm still waiting for the remakes of The Apple Dumpling Gang and The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes.

I gave up on a remake for The Ugly Dachshund years ago, once Suzanne Pleshette passed away. Burbank just doesn't make gorgeous young starlets any more, so who on earth could have played her part?

Dunno, I think Sydney Sweeney is considered a gorgeous young starlet -

She has already been around Disney having been in a few Disney shows like Grey's Anatomy, Handmaid Tales, Pretty Little Liars, and even a movie with Sony's Superverse movie Madam Web, which is not officially part of the MCU but is rumored to be included in someway as part of the new Spider-Man movie coming out next year. As well as rumored to be considered for Disney projects with roles like in the live action Tangled (if it ever happens) and in the new Pirates movie that Jerry Bruckheimer is working on.

So yeah she should play an updated Fran part if they remake that movie.

Sydney Sweeney really needs to make a rated R vampire movie with Megan Fox. They gave us a taste of it in Night Teeth staring Disney Channel's Debby Ryan (Jessie).

Here’s how Fantastic 4 has slipped week on week had it maintained a more standard tentpole 3X multiple.

1) 218 - 654
2) 368.7 - 670
3) 434.2 - 565.2
4) 468.7 - 537.7

It’ll still do 500 I’d surmise, but it’s slowing way down.

I don't think it will make $537.7 million, but it will probably hit $500 million by the end of the month

How much more it does beyond that, IDK

Yes, I hope it shows Disney that small movies are worthwhile. If Freakier Friday was only released on D+ it wouldn't have made this additional money.
If anything, Freakier Friday’s success is a good sign for The Princess Diaries 3 being theatrical, now that it’s in pre-production and will likely start filming after Anne Hathaway wraps The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Well to be fair…that’s a clickbait SM poster who is trying to avoid productive use of his time at all costs…

Which is probably why he gets reposted in this thread to justify failure constantly 🤓

Says the guy who posts throughout the day on a Disney fan site.

So lets not discuss about other people's productivity or lack there of just because you don't like the content of their posts whether here or on other social media platforms.

I wonder how FF would have done at the height of Pedro (after The Last Of Us season one.) People hadn’t had a chance to turn on him yet.
I don't think Pascal's ever been a box office draw. In fact, I think he's more character actor than lead (at least, when it comes to theatrical).

I do wonder how it would've done if John Krasinski reprised the role instead...

According to Rotten Tomatoes, Fantastic Four will be the only MCU movie to open as high as $117 million, but not reach $300 million domestically

Superman's foreign box office is worse than Aquaman 2.

Here's how those three look comparatively, just for fun...

Also of note, The Fantastic Four's foreign box office is worse than Superman, which was worse than Aquaman 2.

I'm guessing you didn't see Multiverse of Madness.
I did not. And I didn’t realize the Fantastic 4 were involved in Strange 2. Thought maybe he was just in a previous iteration before I knew who he was or something

Did Krasinski bow out or Disney just go another direction? I figure Pascal is probably a bigger name now after Mando and the Last of Us
