who cares what Elizabeth Warren thinks. Disney spent a fortune making Endgame and took the risk. Yes, it may become the highest grossing movie ever but it was not guaranteed. BTW, she is way off on her prediction. Disney is going to gross much more than $9 billion, they will probably break $12 billion. Add to that the Fox revenue and it will be even higher.

Sigh. I replied to her. Not that I think she'll read it, but you never know.

The low wages and exorbitant CEO salary is worthy of criticism. But this round of layoffs is simply culling duplicated jobs from a merger, and it was relatively small.

I wonder if anyone will report on all the new jobs created as Disney ramps up new content for D+ and Hulu.

12 billion isn’t really realistic

She had to attack Iger because Sanders attacked her for being close to corporate Dems. Which costs her a little of my respect.

I also think it is a strange comparison to look at entry level to CEO pay. We rarely look at janitor to Star athlete pay. We compare like jobs and performance to one another. Similar execs, like Moonves and Bewkes, frequently made more than Iger.

That disparity comes up a lot in some circles. It hadn't been brought up so much in recent politics as many liberals tried to appear to be moderate by not attacking corporate CEOs (and losing their financial support). But, socialistic-ish ideals are no longer a political death certificate any more in this election cycle.

{getting dangerously close to politics, but, it is Disney/Iger related}

Year to date, 362 movies have been shown in movie theaters generating 4.4 Billion in box office in North America (US and Canada). Year to date, Buena Vista, 20CF, and FoxSL have shown 11 movies generating $1.85 Billion in revenue. That is 42% of the revenue for 3% of the movies. If it was so darn easy and anyone could do it, the disparity wouldn't be that pronounced. The cost of paying The Actors, Advertising, the Theater's Take, etc has to be removed from the total...

Did you know they are already over 5.5 billion for the year so far? They still have Toy Story 4, Lion King, Frozen 2 and Star Wars along with Maleficent left. All but Maleficent should end up over 1 billion world wide. 12 billion is a stretch but not unrealistic because they will be about 6 billion by June 30 and over 7 billion by the end of July.

Are you including fox? Because by my calculations they are slightly under 5. I think 9-10 billion is a more realistic estimate but I hope you are correct.

No, I am including the carryover from last years movies and Glass's international box office. Box Officemojo has just the 4 2019 releases not including Penguins at $4,956.4 billion.

I'm not sure you're making the point you think you're making . . .

I hate when someone complains about how much money someone else makes. It's very petty. We all hope to find work and we agree to work for what we are paid. Iger's employer thought he was worth that much money and he accepted it. He has done what they wanted him to do. The proof is in them asking him to stay beyond his normal contract. It really is no ones business as to how many workers a company decides to hire or let go. As long as the company meets legal standards of employment, it's not the governments business either.
Now the public may not like what they see or hear and vote with their wallet and that is how it should be. Support what you love.

Official box office numbers count towards the year the movie is released - for example Force Awakens giant pile of money all counts towards 2015's total even though most of its run was in 2016.

Note: This excludes re-releases - so if they do a SW marathon with separate air times before Rise of Skywalker, the TFA numbers from that showing would be 2019 money. The marathons where they air all the movies in a row with one start time is a different thing entirely and usually are counted towards the release the marathon is promoting.

If you are correct on what counts in each year, why did Deadline report this on June 2. "Avengers: Endgame has now risen to $2.713B, and with Aladdin helped push Disney past the $5B worldwide mark with $5.147B to date. Of that, $1.638B is from domestic and $3.509B is from overseas. Including Fox’s 2019 grosses to date, those totals rise to $1.841B domestic, $4.284B international and $6.125M global."

On the latest episode of Disney Dish, Jim Hill hints that attractions based on The Simpsons (specifically Treehouse of Horror during Halloween) are being explored for international parks.

WDW should add a Horror option to their Halloween offerings. MNSSHP is great but having another option, making 2, would even be better. Disney should do this before Universal gets around to offering a second party. Fox assets givs Disney the horror options to compete with Universal without having to pay third parties for the rights.
