Disney After Hours Event

On the bus back to the Boardwalk. Quick recap:

Park was completely dead. Attractions Magazine is estimating 1,000 total guests in attendance. Not sure how accurate that is but it sure felt like a small number.

No limit on ice cream or drinks. I have a backpack full of soda for the pool tomorrow.

Ended up doing 15 headliners or near-headiners (and had 4 Mickey Bars) in 3 hours.

Space Mountain x3
Thunder Mountain x3
Mine Train x2
Anna & Elsa
Peter Pan
Haunted Mansion
Pirates
Astro Orbiter
Buzz Lightyear
Mickey Meet & Greet

Only two "lines" we waited in were Astro Orbiter at the very beginning of the event and 10 minutes for Anna & Elsa. The rest of the waits were literally the time it took to walk to where the rides loaded. We probably could have done more with a better plan of attack. We were here for just 2 days before a cruise and it was worth it for us. Glad we did it.

I'm glad people had small lines and were able to do things however aren't these the same things they can do with just a regular park ticket and with small lines if managed correctly and/or being there for rope drop?

I wonder if Disney slipped something into those magical ice cream bars to make everyone think how worth it this event was

To think there were only estimated 1,000 people there and a good portion I'm sure we're free dvc'ers and free bloggers sounds like an epic failure to me. My guess is the future ones may be even worse...but hey...all you will hear from Disney and the lap dog bloggers is how awesome and great it was regardless

If it was like the E-Ticket nights where you payed a smaller amount that would be cool. Heck, I would pay 30 bucks a pop to be in there for unlimited ice cream, soda and walk on rides.

Getting there early would only get you a ride or two on Seven Dwarves or Space Mountain or Big Thunder. I don't think you could get three rides on each just by arriving at the park at 0845.

As philbarr2001 posted, he wanted on day/night in the Magic Kingdom before a cruise. He had the option of spending $117 for 9am to 11pm in the park or spending $149 for 7pm to 1am in the park. Yes you get eight hours less with the special event ticket, but look how much he got done in the evening. Plus a backpack full of soda and four Mickey ice creams.
In most cases the event price doesn't seem worth it, particularly if you have access to evening extra magic hours. But if you are considering paying for a full price single day ticket for the MK, then going for the After Dark ticket instead for the extra $32 may make sense. However the cases where the price is reasonable is very small, hence the very low number of tickets purchased. If they had priced closer to the one day price (say $119) they might have sold a few more.

Crowds are still there at 7pm so let's do the comparison at 10pm. No parades, fireworks, shows, either which to me is worth seeing more than a Mickey ice cream bar and a coke (and paying more)

personally I've been to the parks as they open and hit several of those popular rides with basically little to no waits and then you can fast pass 3 others from there with little to no waits and now we can even book additional fast passes from there. While I don't like crowds, I also don't like this new trend of paying more for less

I would say as you can get in at 7pm you do still get MSEP and Wishes. Someone who is going for the event could concentrate on the parade and fireworks while the park is open and then hit the rides once all the day guests have left. If you didn't have the option to arrive in time to enjoy Wishes then the even is 100% not worth it as fireworks are a big part of the value of a Disney park compared to Six Flags or wherever.

But I am not arguing the event is worthwhile overall, just in certain situations it is possible to find it better than a full priced one day ticket.

Final # of tickets sold I heard was 300 and "maybe" 1000 total number of guests in the park. As the park closed there were more CMs on Main Street than guests. They said it was only worth it if you LOVEMine Train and Mickey Bars.

From what I'm hearing, Disney also labeled last night as "sold out" to hype further interest in the event and make a good press story.
