Disney After Hours BOO BASH

This is pretty underwhelming... Didn't they mention trick or treating originally? No fireworks and no parades. $130 for some ice cream bars and a bottle of soda. How much of that can one eat? We did the Villains' after hours before and after a couple of snacks you really cant fit more in. Things like Space were incredibly long for the wait. I wont spend $130 for a 3 hour event.

Also I noticed there is not one of these parties listed for the week of the 50th. Maybe we are actually getting something for the 50th on that Friday.

It's still there -

"As we shared previously, all foolish mortals can dress in costume for the event and you can get your fill of Halloween candy while trick-or-treating around the park."

This event falls under the "After Hours" label.

These events are known for being super low capacity. They are not comparable to the holiday parties.

While capacity numbers are not being released, it's reasonable to assume this new event will be the same, until we learn otherwise.

Disney is running the event because they couldn't run their normal Halloween Event. To run the Halloween party without the marque elements would lead to a meltdown. So instead, they don't call it the halloween party, lets call it Boo Bash! and run it on all the same kind of dates and opportunities like we would have ran the party!

Yes it's the different 'product' - but lets be real - its the replacement for the party.. not an addition to the calendar. It's either a pandemic substitute, or a pandemic RESET to punt the parties forever. I'm at least trying to be an optimist that they aren't ditching the parties fully yet... but a high possibility!

And why do this event at all? Disney doesn't want to NOT run the parties and certainly doesn't want to give up the revenue. Do you really believe Disney is prioritize 'after hours experience as known in other events', enforce OLD (secret no less) caps, and lose out on their normal party revenue?

Disney is going to be looking for the Boo event to do what the party did for the company... bring in the $$$. If that means they gotta sell more tickets... I bet they do.

Think about it.. the audience here is the halloween crowd - not the very group of previous 'after hours' customers. They can be smaller than the halloween crowds easily and still be above after-hours crowds and squeeze as much as they can from it.

This is the 2021 halloween product - not 'a new after hours event'. That's the real driving force.

The numbers I've seen thrown around for a DAH is 12k - 15k.

That's 13% - 16% of packed-to-the-gills phased closing capacity, or, 20% - 26% of an average day.

It's a lot less than the 25% of completely-full capacity that WDW re-opened with this past summer.

Yeah but its still a limited version of the park - not a full capacity version of the park. When I did DAH - the park is empty, but rides like Space still had a huge line and the amount of stuff you could get done in the limited hours was quite limited.

3hrs goes REAL fast.. especially if you have a ride with 30+ min waits like Space was.

That is so true. With the Villains AH they had the stage shows which ate up a lot of time. To their credit, the second stage show happened at the end of the night at 12 or 1AM, followed by Maleficent escorting everyone out.

The biggest villain, so to speak, is the lack of transition from day guest to DAH guest. Because the queues keep taking day guests until a regular closing, If an E-Ticket has a 60 minute wait at closing, you still have to deal with the queue being cleared out. If there are fireworks prior or during, you also loose a lot of time before the parks clear out.

Yup... I didn't stay for much of the stage show for this very reason... time was too valuable. But I spent time checking out some of the food offerings... that ate up time too. I'm sure I have a thread about my experience somewhere but the TLDR is 'I ran out of time' even with a very limited capacity, but limited roster park. Comparing the totals where a park is running shows, dining, a full roster of attractions, M&Gs, etc to where the park has a very limited menu isn't really sound thinking.

I did DAH because I was in town and if you aren't already on a Disney vacation and need to buy a park pass anyway, it wasn't a horrible way to experience MK as a veteran.

MNSSHP would have been $149 in 2020 on Halloween for a jam-packed party. I don’t think an extra $50 for far lower crowds and ice cream/popcorn is unreasonable.
It absolutely is.

$50 more and you go from 5 hours of the party to 3 hours of the party (with additional early admission time on top of that), no fireworks (yet) and no parade (2 showings during MNSSHP).

I'm not surprised, but this is crap.

That extra $50 is for one night. The night that would sell out immediately at lower prices.

It is not an extra $50 for any other night.

I'm sure all our free-market fans are applauding over this.

This is incorrect. Prices started at $79 in 2019. They start at $129 for this.

So, we complained at an event that closed the parks at 6 pm 4 nights per week. Now we complain at an event that is 2 nights a week and maintains normal hours with fireworks for all.

Sounds like we just want to complain.

If you don’t find appeal in buying extra time in the park, don’t do it. At least you won’t be forced out at 6 pm.

This, I can agree with. By reducing the actual operations of the party you are doing less damage to the day guests. That in itself is a good thing.

Disney After Hours event tickets cost $125, plus tax for advance purchase and $129, plus tax for day-of purchases. For those who are Disney Vacation Club members and Annual Passholders, there is a discounted price of $95, plus tax.

That's from an Aug 2019 article.

I'm pricing it against MNSSHP, they can call it what they want, but the comparisons will absolutely be made to MNSSHP.

Disney will oversell these events, the E-tickets will have 20-30 min waits and the fans will still think it's great.

If you wanna go, go because you want a taste of Halloween in WDW.

Don't go assuming short lines for rides. That sounds like setting yourself up for disappointment.
