A welcome folder with their Key to the World Card will be waiting at a designated Disney’s Online Check-In area in the resort hotel lobby. Guests will need to present valid photo ID to pick up the folder and complete check-in. Guests may check-in online beginning 10 days prior to their arrival date. Web site addresses for Disney’s Online Check-In service will vary based on the original method of booking. As Guests are completing Disney’s Online Check-In service, select Guests will have an opportunity to apply for the Disney Rewards® Visa Card® that could be used during their stay. WOW! I will be checking in on the 8th at the Sports Resort. Hopefully that will be one of the resorts using this.

I'm curious about the actual start date (We arrive at BWV on 1.14.09), and if DVC resorts are participating in this as well.

I much prefer the social interaction of checking in with the CM. Most are super friendly and I try to make the check in CM my first "friend" on each vacation. That way if I need soemthing later on, I have a familiar friendly face to help out. I prefer chatting and laughing. At least I'll still have that option.

I think this could be very helpful. If information is gathered on the time you estimate to arrive it could possilby allow rooms to be ready when you arrive instead of having to check in your luggage and keep your fingers crossed. I also like the idea that you can report and birthdays and special events during your stay without ruining surprises when you check in. We had a CM ask our daughter if she was excited for the P&P party when we checked in and it was supposed to be a surprise. Innocent mistake but now more avoidable I think.

This is great. I go through self check out at the grocery store and library. Do all my banking online and at the ATM. Pump my own gas and pay at the pump. Get my boarding pass online bypassing the check in counter. Now I can check in to my hotel online as well. If this keeps up, I'll never have to have a human interaction again!

Actually, this seems good. I've noticed that check in is speedier than it used to be, probably because they have information on you. When you call CRO they seem to know your entire Disney history, which perhaps is a bit creepy.

Crossing the Canada to US border on the shuttle this time they scanned my passport and it took 10 seconds to process me. Two years ago it took forever and a lot of typing. But before my trip my shuttle company asked for my passport. My guess is that they sent the passenger passport numbers to the border and when we showed up (9 of us) our information was all on their computers. They just swiped the passports, glanced at our pictures, and that was it.

All these types of things do make traveling quicker and easier.

I'm really curious as to what types of info will be "processed" during the online check-in vs. in person when you arrive. I understand the need to streamline check-in as some of those lines can get pretty dang long. Hhmmm...interesting. I don't know if I'll use this service or not. We're staying at the Contemporary in January. Last year when we stayed there we were brought right up to the check-in desk with no wait. It doesn't seem advantageous for us at this resort. Then again, it would be neat just to try it. I'll wait and see what types of reviews the service gets after the 1st of the year.

here are some details
DISNEY TO INTRODUCE ONLINE RESORT CHECK-IN
Starting in January 2009, guests staying at select Disney resorts will be able to check-in online up to 10 days prior to arrival:
  • The online check-in will include providing the credit card to be used for room charges, your arrival and departure times, your address, on-site (cellphone) number, names of all guests and your room requests (these are subject to availability and will not be guaranteed.) Part of the process will include reviewing and agreeing to the registration terms.
  • Your time of arrival will not impact your ability to use the online check-in. If you arrive early, there is no guarantee that your room will be ready. While efforts will be made to have the room available, standard check-in times remain in effect.
  • Upon arrival there will be signage in the resort lobby indicating where the online check-in area is located
  • A valid photo ID, which includes a drivers license, govt. issued passport, govt. issued photo ID or active military ID, will need to be shown
  • You'll be given a welcome folder containing your resort/Disney World information and your room keys
  • This online service is for check-ins only. If you need to modify/change your reservation, you must use the same method you used when you booked your reservation.
  • If you booked either through the Disney Reservations Center or with Disney Cruise Line, you will get online check-in information either via an email, online or with your confirmation documents. If you booked via the Disney Vacation Member Services, you will find online check-in information on the Member website, the Disney Files magazine and through member services. If you booked through a Travel Agent, you will be able to check-in at mydisneyreservation.com once the program is active.

I like talking to the CM while I check in too. I think the new system sounds cool and will try it when the lines are really long. But if there is a short line I like to stand there and take in the atmosphere and let it soak in that I'm in disney!

Yes. At POP a couple weeks ago, my check in CM was from Sheffield, England. I said: "Sheffield, that's where Michael Palin is from." She stared at me blankly. "Monty Python," I added. "Oh, right," she said flatly. I thought it was funny. I'd miss that kind of interaction!

I don't think that we have ever had to wait more than a few minutes to check in. Maybe we have just hit it at the right time. Early on Sunday mornings.

The longest i ever waited was 45 minutes at Pop century a few years back. Other than that a few minutes I wait. I might try the online check in. I will see how it works.
