Is "Dog Man" supposed to be the Robbie Williams movie? I think he's supposed to be a monkey, not a dog.
That's Better Man.

Dog Man is half man half dog. There was an accident and the doctors decided to put the dog's head on the man's body.

The Captain Underpants movie was great and Pilkey's books are super popular. Dog Man should do well.
Captain Underpants back in 2017 was a modest success earning $126M off a $38M budget, non-inflation adjusted. I would suspect Dog Man to do about the same.

But as for the series being "great", I don't know about that. The books might be super popular, but the movies aren't by any means.

Captain Underpants has a significantly higher critics score than Mufasa FWIW

And that might be, but the box office doesn’t reflect that however. And as we’ve been told by numerous people here the box office is the final arbiter of mass appeal. So you might be overestimating its appeal.

Nonetheless, the trailer still makes Dog Man look extremely stupid. Now it might do well, but based on the franchise so far I have my doubts.

Correct…and Mufasa is essentially done. That’s how it goes.

But of course…you conveniently forget That different movies have different expectations from the start. With different advantages and disadvantages

And yet I still suspect that Mufasa will be the #1 or #2 movie this weekend.
Which won’t be much

Gonna have a real hard time adding much. Most of these flicks…even Disney tentpoles…flatline at around 21 days.

I was surprised to see Sonic still with a sizeable lead in NA over muf…

Failure to launch with this one. Hopefully no more “live action” animal remakes?

…other than the probably 6 already in production 🙄

It’s had good holds, so not sure why you think it’s flatlined.

Define flatline for us. It's at 482, what range are you thinking?
Somewhere around a total of $550ish? Maybe break even once the chips fall?

It’s doing almost nothing domestically…which is hard to overcome

Don’t think this is the type of movie that is gonna hang around with legs internationally either.

Just a guess

As much as inside out and Moana have had Impressive legs…this appears to be the exact oppo

The 21 day wall mostly

What am I talking about?

Two types of movies: ones with legs or ones that die at 21

It seems to play…we debated it here with the tentpoles…notably the Star Wars movies from the masters at Disney

They died. Most of the middling to fails the last few years followed suit.

Mufasa looks like one of those. hard to make up ground

The tale of the tape will ultimately show.

I’m aware of what you’re talking about, however you have to actually look at the actual holds to say if it’s flatlined or not. And with holds above 40-50% it’s hard to say it’s flatlined. Just like when you said Moana flatlined and it ended up coming back and performing extremely well. I think your range of $550M is probably close to right, maybe even a bit low, but that isn’t a flatline compared to where it is right now.

Next week is when I expect it to “flatline”.

It’s January 10th…one of the weakest movie going times of the year. The situation is not favorable. Less severe drops on small takes are difficult to fill the collection plate with…

We’ll see. Heard this “it will keep making money cause of the brand” stuff before. We don’t need to go over fhe long…but distinguished…list of names on that list.
