OK, you're really tipping your hand with these posts. We get it. Attendance went down. DUH!!! Anyone could see that.

Posting things from random media with the clickbait titles "Disney Finally Admits...!!!!!" is just dumb. Who's got proof they were hiding those numbers when the CEO mentions it in a SEC call? Unbelievable.

Posts from Wall Street analysts looking at one quarter and extrapolating from there is just the dumbest financial analysis possible. You you think that they're smart because you keep posting the same information over and over and over again.

Just some random guy talking into a camera about those very same Wall Street analysts is an extra layer of stupid. Did you really think the point you want to make is made stronger by some guy talking into a camera? Really? That's your proof of whatever thesis you're trying to make?

Did you think that because we're not hanging on *your* word as some sort of insider that we'll blindly accept your financial analysis? Hah!

We know your agenda now. It ain't pretty. It ain't smart. It ain't true.

They lost my wife and I as players months ago. She stopped not long before I did, due to frustration with difficulty in getting certain pieces and just the overall repetitive nature of things. My last straw was the Princess & The Frog event. I tried to get the first character, which should be doable in the first 3-4 hours. After 4 days of trying, and failing, to get the one missing necessary piece, I uninstalled the game. They turned that game from fun to play into pay-to-win in a big way. Someone posted the cost to do certain events and it showed something like an 80% inflation rate in what needed to be done to complete them. Without spending real money, you aren't getting the 'big character' (Ariel, Tiana, etc.) in any of their "new content" events, it is literally impossible to do so without spending real money. I got Stitch but only after shelling out some $ to get some gems so I could complete him. Drop rates were ok at the start but got progressively worse as time went on.

I will stop the tangent now and return you to your regularly scheduled discussion of TWDC Q3 earnings. :)
Ha. My sister was just complaining to me about this exact issue. Magic Kingdoms is literally the only game she plays, played it for ages, always "managing" her park multiple times a day to get the best stuff. Now she stopped caring because everything is behind a pay wall. She checks in strictly once a day so she can set it up and get the easier rewards, but she's growing tired of it quickly.

As a resident gamer and lovable rogue, I am very familiar with how badly EA wet the bed with the release of battlefront. The single play campaign was criticized as dull, but the multiplayer was decent to good. The problem was at launch they made all the best unlockables incredible grinds to purposely frustrate players into caving in and just buying unlockables. On top of that, the purchasable unlockables were randomized with "lootbox mechanics" which is quite controversial already.

When criticized for this, EA provided the famous quote that they wanted players to have a "sense of accomplishment" after days of tediuous grinding. The backlash REALLY hurt sales out of the gate. Apparently they lowered the grind and the game price and that has seen positive results.

Now I should probably get back to work. Good day normal people.
One of EA's responses to this was to promise that the next Star Wars game was going to be single-player only and have no microtransactions or lootboxes. Wall Street analysts basically hammered the company for giving Star Wars gamers what they actually asked for instead of "sufficiently monetizing a key upcoming release". Goes back to this whole mess of short-term shareholders demanding immediate profit at the expense of a company's long term viability.
@HauntedPirate and @The_Jobu, I have a secret weapon I use for Magic Kingdoms - the Quick Thoughts app. You do surveys (I know...CRINGE), but you actually are able to earn a decent amount and get iTunes gift cards, which I then use for buying the event packs or gems. Payout of gift cards is at $10 (it's not difficult to earn that in a week or a little longer, I do them while I watch TV). GameLoft is in a really tricky spot...they obviously want to keep their players happy because they do read the comments on their live-feeds and tweak things when they are able, but it can't be easy with the demands for more money that are likely placed on them. They (literally just today) finally added more means to win rewards like happiness and gems, and completely re-did the chest structure so you don't have to wait for them to open anymore. I'm hoping the recent changes make the event goals easier to accomplish, because if they don't...they will soon lose yet another player who installed the app the first day it was released.

As for Electronic Arts: there's a sweet spot in regards to how much you have to work before you get rewarded in gaming (I forget the name for it, to be honest...terrible, I know), but EA clearly either doesn't care about that or thinks their rewards are worth way more to the gamer than they actually are. Wall Street needs to butt the hell out and let companies do what they need to in order to stay viable.

Disney's Iger gave every possible reason except for giving to customers what they actually want in Star Wars. Now that Disney fully owns Avatar, they can still ruin it once James Cameron decides to not make subsequent additions personally. This is not about a simple mistake of a bad storyline or a misjudged opening date. Disney can ruin a franchise by deliberately alienating it's fan base and make changes to myths and tone of the franchise. This was what happened to Star Wars. The magic is lost. How can they regain it? There are 2 Rises: Rise of Skywalker and Rise of Resistance. What's sad is they are on-track to break Marvel with the announcement on Phase 4. It's suicide to make Thor female when Chris Hemsworth is still young, capable, and willing to play the role. The rush to make every Marvel character completely different than what it's creator envisioned will hurt the franchise especially with inserting modern Woke/SJW politics. This is Sequel Disney.

I'm pretty sure Thor became a female in the comics too.

6 years after Disney bought Marvel. And, as @The_Jobu noted, it was a failure. Now they're sailing that ship again for the upcoming movie. 🤔

Edit: That said, Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth seem to have good on-screen chemistry, so with the right story, they could definitely pull it off more successfully on the movie screen than in the comics.

Yes and no.

Jane Foster inherited the powers of Thor but she did not become Thor, as Thor is his name. It also sold spectacularly poorly and is a bit of running joke in comic circles. If you're ever interested in an alternate warrior of Asgard, check out Beta Ray Bill :geek:.
That's sort of what I meant, lol, but couldn't quite remember how it went down. Hubby read all the comics and plays Marvel: Contest of Champions, so that's where I've seen her.

Pretty clear you're ignorant as to what your commenting on. The individual in the video is a left-leaning, independent journalist famous for his award-winning coverage of Occupy Wall Street. Also, lay off the caffeine...

I've seen this storm before...

I advise everyone to shift over to the politics board before the thread becomes a dumpster fire.

No.

You're welcome to report posts that should go there.

No.
During the 2014 "Original Sin" storyline, Nick Fury whispers an unrevealed secret to Thor that causes him to lose the ability to wield Mjolnir.[27] Soon afterwards, an unidentified woman picks up the hammer, taking possession of Thor's power as the new Goddess of Thunder, and fights Malekith the Accursed, Dario Agger (the new Minotaur), and the Absorbing Man. Although Thor initially attempts to reclaim the hammer,[28] he – referring to himself as 'Odinson' – relinquishes the name and role of Thor after witnessing her wield its power.[29] Odinson suspects Foster as a possible candidate for his successor,[29] but he soon dismisses her due to her weakened condition from chemotherapy.[30]

Dude, just walk away. I actually own those comic, not just looking them up on wikipedia for social justice queues. Thor is Thor. Marvel's hamfisted attempt to legitimize Jane Foster caused an epidemic of sprained eye muscles as the comic book community rolled their collective eyes so hard. It was stupid then and it's stupid now. Hence it's spectacular failure.

Let's talk about the earnings and leave the off topic dumpsterfires for another thread.

Back on point:

While I agree with those who think Disney has misplayed the Star Wars brand lately, I didn't think it was to the extent yet that it would affect earnings. Especially as the MCU can do no wrong, I'm kind of stumped as to why earnings are down.

So @DanielBB8 can bring it up. You comment on it. But I got to walk away from it?

Nice.

That's because it didn't materially affect revenues. The biggest cause of earnings being not as high as expected (sidenote: it's incorrect to say they were down; they grew 33% over the same quarter last year; Wall Street Analysts expected more) according to the SEC filings are related to the Fox acquisition, including the writedown for Dark Phoenix.
