Disappointment with Cap'n Jacks

So I used my 50% holiday coupon to go to Cap'n Jacks with my husband and two friends last night. While the margarita was strong, the menu was sorely lacking. There was no bread or dinner rolls offered, which I was kind of expecting. Apps consisted of crab cakes, green or ceasar salad, $11 shrimp cocktail, spinach and artichoke dip, and chowder. The mixed green salad came with a choice of ranch or papaya vinaigrette. I had the papaya vinaigrette, which was very nice. My husband, the crab cake afficianado, said they were good, but nowhere near Fulton's.

The entree menu was (in my opinion) even more desolate, offering only seafood paella (which they were not serving last night, having replaced it with a rather good shrimp scampi over linguini), twin lobster tails, 'homemade' pot roast, and some other nondescript items. The scampi was very good, and my companions all ordered the pot roast. I tasted it, and it was good, but the gravy on it did not have a 'homemade' taste.

After my discount and tip, it was $127. Part of me is glad I didn't waste my money paying full price there. Another part of me is ticked off that I wasted a 50% coupon. Next time, I'll DEFINITELY spend double the money and go to Fulton's. Also, Cap'n Jacks now takes ADR's, so call WDW-DINE or you may have a wait.

I ate there a few years ago and like you was not all that impressed. The food was not bad but definitely not on par with the other places at WDW.

A little follow-up. I know this could happen to any waitstaff at any restaurant, but it would happen to me during this visit.

Two days after we ate at Cap'n Jack's, I expected to see the $127ish deducted from my bank account, as I paid with a debit card. I was surprised to see DOUBLE that deducted: $255.96!!!! They typed it in wrong, or so I'm told, by putting the total in the tip space. No one noticed a waiter getting a $127 tip!?!?!?!

Anyway, called the manager there who was quite short with me and seemed a bit hassled, and has stated my money will be refunded. Sadly, I had $127 less to spend at the SALSA sale today

Cap'N Jacks has good periods and bad periods...lots of us will remember when it was one of the few dining options down at DDD...ironically -- all of their non-seafood dishes are always better than their seafood dishes - and it has always been that way there...

Basically they are known by regulars as the "Margarita Place" ...and not so much as a dining place.

They were removed from the Disney Dining Plan, then put back on again a year later...so I don't expect any of their food to improve because of that - there is no incentive to change anything now with ready-made payment coming in to full tables every night...

I've never had dinner there, but the lunches that I've had weren't bad at all.

As far as crabcakes goes, if you've had Fulton's, almost all crabcakes you will have after that will be a disappointment. Although, and I'm not sure if it's my faulty memory, but it appears that Fulton's crabcakes have shrunk a bit in size. I remember them being thicker and larger than what we had last Sept.
