Disappointed by Academy Snubbing Disney this year

Just watched the performances

So, I just watched "Falling Slowly" and "Raise it Up", I can't find "So Close". And I really didn't like "Falling Slowly", not as a song and most definitely not for best song. Now, "Raise it Up" that was a song. It was moving and filled with emotion and an eleven year old that can belt like that is just amazing. I would be okay if Enchanted lost to August Rush, I may even go as far to say as it should have won plain and simple.

I think "That's How You Know" is going to become one of those classic songs. You just have to give it a few years.

And Disney consistently gets snubbed by the Oscars. And the kid movie argument doesn't hold water with me, because Johnny Depp didn't when for Pirates 1, which was one of the best acting jobs I've seen. Then again, they never give Johnny the Oscar.

The fact is movies that usually do well at the box office now a days don't when Oscars. Yes, I know there are exceptions. Out of nowhere The Bourne Ultimatum one some, but generally it's the small obscure movies that most people haven't seen and/or don't even know about.

Speaking of Bourne did you see they announced Matt Damon has signed on for #4!!! I love these movies and the liitle video he has with Sarah Silverman right now(not for younguns btw) is so hilarious.I had tears in my eyes after seeing that video I was laughing so hard.

Hrudey, did you see Jimmy Kimmels rebuttle to his girlfriend's video. Lets just put it this way, his is about Ben Affleck. Go watch it. It's great.

I must be in the minority. I thought the song that won was absolutely beautiful and deserving of a win.
I did not really care for any of the songs from Enchanted.

I really like the Bourne movies, just surprised by their wins at the Oscars. How are they doing a fourth? I thought there were only three books.

I'll check out the Sarah Silverman video.

The Kimmel/Affleck version is great too but not to the extent of the Matt Damon version IMHO

And Karolena maybe now he has figured out who he is maybe Bourne will go find his car in the parking lot where he left it.

I don't actually know the answer to that question, but I can make an educated guess. She's a pretty famous Tony Award winner with an amazing voice. She's also known for having a bubbly pesonality, so they probably thought she was a lot like Giselle. I, personally love her, and I would prefer her than Beyonce or some other singer who's big right now. (Nothing against Beyonce of course)

And to add to my first post: I just read that Amy didn't want to see do two songs, because it was going to be nerve-wrecking enough, so she asked that someone else do it. I'm not sure if that's true, but I've seen it in a few places.

That explanation is good enough for me, thanks! I thought KC did a great job, I was just confused by how she was involved. I also would understand that Amy wouldn't want to do 2...I'd be nervous enough to do 1!

Oh my gosh, the Sarah Silverman video is hilarious, but I still have to find Kimmel's response. Thanks for telling me about it.

But, "Falling Slowly." Wow... I had never heard the song before the Academy Awards, but I'm glad that I know of it now, because, its amazing. It's minimalistic in style, but I can't say that I disagree with the Academy, the songs in Enchanted are fun, catchy, and in "So Close"'s case, pretty darn moving. But in the end, they are pretty much the kind of wonderful fluff that Alan Menken (and the late Howard Ashman) are known for. He writes wonderful music, which can convey emotion, and some complicated orchestral bits, but "Falling Slowly"

Wow...

I agree with both of these. I liked "Enchanted," but even when I saw it in the theaters I really didn't think the songs were that spectacular. This isn't to say that Disney hasn't had some spectacular songs in their films. I was very surprised when "Enchanted" received three nominations in the best song category for the Oscars. I can only think that maybe it was a slow year for original songs. "Falling Slowly" is a beautiful and moving song that deserved to win in my opinion. The songs from "Enchanted" sounded a little too mainstream, and that probably isn't what the academy was going to base their decision on.

I will say that considering all the extras that performed in the last two songs performed that were nominated from "Enchanted," I was really suprised that Amy Adams was the only one on stage during her performace. I know that they couldn't re-create it to be like the scene in the movie, but it didn't have the song didn't have the same effect with just her being on stage.

Along with Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Rogan (of Knocked Up fame) has also parodied this.

The movies are like the books in title only. Trfore, they can make many movies without the books. I love the movies but they are really nothing like the books at all.

I'm glad to hear about a fourth Bourne movie. If you've seen though....and pay very close attention to what they won awards for, it's pretty obvious why they won those categories...what were they? sound editing? and sound mixing? I can't remember at the moment, but with the fast cuts during the fight scenes and basically throughout the entire movie it makes the editing peoples jobs a nightmare. Good for them.

We should just be happy that Ratatoille won....I enjoyed it, but was honestly surprised that it beat Perseopolis...which is another great animated film and the movie that I really though would win.
